So I was driving from Millerton, New York, to Newark, New Jersey. On the Taconic State Parkway I start seeing these signs: Donald J. Trump State Park. I look at my dearest and tell her: "Could you believe what we just saw here? This is as if there was an Adolf Hitler State Forest in Bavaria!" (I am from Germany). "They should rename the thing. How could this guy even have a park named after him???"
Oh, I was so naive. Once I googled the park, it got absurd! It is again a prime example of the practicing of the fart of the deal!
Agent Orange bough a larger piece of land for US$ 2 million to turn into a golf course. The adjacent residents voted him down, he was not able to develop the land. So he claimed it was now worth $100 million, and donated it as a State Park, taking the tax write-off.
There was no funding for maintaining the park, and it is now a blight. There are abandoned buildings, with asbestos problems, on it. I saw video clips on YouTube of the park - a typical Agent Orange deal gone to crap. Car engines in a heap of rust. Tennis courts with weeds coming out of cracks. There are no marked paths, and the New York park services do not even list the park. There have been proposals to rename the park, but Trump threatened he would demand it back if this were to occur (I don't even know how that would work, it is no longer his...).
Man, everything he touches...!!!

(82,383 posts)and typical. A DJT state park would naturally not be beautiful, but blighted. He probably claims it is the best park.

(869 posts)...he let the property go to hell to spite the nearby residents for voting him down on the golf course. Nice guy!

He has never been a successful business man.

(10,014 posts)It is an obvious metaphor for Trump but it also makes the state look bad. Now is the time to rename and renovate it so it is useful to the people of the state.

(33,643 posts)Also gives the state money to maintain the area? Because if not, this dilapidated state of the land would seem to be more 'on' the State, than Trump.
Someone should definitely have investigated at the IRS just exactly how a piece of land he bought for $2M (and that's because he thought he could turn it into valuable commercial property) could be magically transformed into a $100M piece of land for the purposes of a tax write-off ... after the ostensible commercial use was voted down by the community. Seems like it should then be worth the same at best, if not LESS, and certainly not 50 f***ing TIMES more than what he paid.

(21,056 posts)By 2020 this country will be unrecognizable. High food, gas and housing prices. More homeless and awful pollution, increase in devastating natural disasters and no government help. Youre on your own Twitler supporters. No more FEMA help in flood zones, tornados or hurricanes. The negligence of Puerto Rico will be full scale in the continental US. Red states will bear the brunt of his policies.
