I'm going to immediately lose my mind on anybody who talks about "spine" or "fight"

regarding Kavanaugh.

We could have kept him off the court, if we had kept the Senate. If, for instance, Feingold had outperformed Clinton, rather than underperforming her.

We cannot keep Kavanaugh off the court. Period. Unless both Collins and Murkowski bolt (which they won't), he's in.

If you talk about Senate Democrats failing here, you are essentially outing yourself as a moron. There. Is. Nothing. They. Can. Do. Because we didn't give them the votes they needed. Fix it in the mid-terms.

Why just say..."according to what I know...we're through." Unless you are Larry tribe or someone close...please....have hope and give strength. It matters. BROTHER.

in the meantime, lets try to avoid utter hopelessness?? I don't know. Just a thought. It's hotter than shit and all I hear tonight is folding chairs and the sounds of brooms. THIS is why we don't win. Bc we check the rule book (ahhh nothing here)...check the "see what we've always done" (crapola...we've always just given up to the evil right.) and turn out the lights and limp home.

incumbent, republican, because 47% decided the SC wasn't an important issue

In addition, there were enough self-identified progressives who refused to vote for the Democratic nominee by either voting third party or not voting

Because of that we LOST TWO SC judge appointments

The OPs assessment is correct, we are at the mercy of Senate republicans, and that is unlikely to happen

We are the most educated segment of the citizenry. Can we show it for once?
These slimey fuckers cheat, steal, pay-off, threaten everyone everyday. They get what looks like a victory and Democratic Opinion Boards fold like a cheap suit. When we all are exchanging messages via toilet paper in a Gulag in Montana on life sentences, I guess we will finally render the decision that, in order to win a bar fight...you have to keep punching...and punching and PUNCHING.
If you think it's out of the question for Democrats on sites like this to be eventually rounded up and imprisoned...see any two sentences out of Ted Nugents mouth, and the cheers from the ignorants. After dt...ANYTHING can happen. And the folks with the BIG post numbers...they'll come for you first. No one is safe. When being educated and caring is a crime....we are criminals. See how fast they chanted LOCK HER UP? She was a presidential candidate AND WINNER of the most pivotal election in our history. What in the world do you think they would do to any of us? (I'm reminded of cartoons w skinny "convicts" hang in hand cuffs on the wall and make sad but funny comments.) sigh.
How far do we slide before we stop forgiving our elected officials for rolling the fuck over...bc...the rules. YOUR JOB IS TO PROTECT the citizenry. YOUR JOB IS TO PROMOTE PROSPERITY and happiness for the Blue folks who voted for you. GET CRACKIN! LIKE YESTERDAY.
But no, we kow tow to the Trey Gowdys, the Mitch Mcconnels, The Jim Jordans of the world bc they are just the nastiness of the bunch...Real Christians they.
WE ARE NOT THE MINORITY. Just bc they say it, doesn't make it so. They cheated and lied and every gain they get from it is a treasonous offense.
Good Churchill Quote Atticus. TY.

Best we can do is hope it mobilizes Democrats to vote once they realize the rights they will have lost or be losing in the near future.

Anti-abortion, pro-discrimination Christians, and gun nuts can relax and now vote to save their Social Security, Medicare, and private Health Insurance by electing a Democratic Congress.

Really?

Let's play 'what if'.
There isn't a Blue Wave and the number of seats held remain unchanged. < possible >
Ryan is now retired < will happen > and a new tRump leg humper is now Speaker. < if the seat # unchanged, highly possible >
McConnell has had both his wife and himself accosted several times with subtle threats of "We know where you live." tossed out. < already done >
Ginsburg gets pneumonia and is hospitalized in ICU on a vent. < possible >

How many days until they reach into this box and vote her out as being physically unfit to perform duties as a judge?

until the Democrats get the majority first. After that, let whoever wants to debate the pros and cons of impeaching trump, go for it

The only reason I mentioned that Congress is the body that has the power to also impeach a SC justice, and some posts here are so convinced that no Democrat should vote for confirmation of a trump appointed SC justice, or else... where else implies we should vote them out.

It seems some Democrats love the idea of a circular firing squad, and I am suggesting that before we even deal with its viability, let's take back Congress first

The only reason I brought up "impeachment of a SC justice", was NOT because I favor it, unless of course there was strong evidence of criminal activity, but thinking it might change the focus to just winning back Congress first, and put divisionary issues on the back burner for now

For the same reason why it is unlikely trump would be impeached because we do not have 2/3 votes in the Senate, the same holds for a SC justice

Let me just ask, where us the last straw? It’s a fucking coup. Maybe they all should go on strike. I could see the Rs doing such a thing. I speak in desperation. Where is the line?

on edit, I’ve had this discussion with friends, the most powerful statement of course, would be a national strike, by we the people, but it’s not much in the US character.

Yes everyone must vote! I tell people to vote everyday.
But you know how SCOTUS has been on voting rights.

the way Rove called Iraq the "Democratic" war, because apparently anytime the federal government abuses its power and goes against the will of the people it is the Democrats' fault since we are the party in charge of protecting the people and the GOP is the party in charge of raking in corporate cash. NOT sarcasm.

The time to keep Kavanaugh off the Court was in 2010 and 2014 - but folks were too busy trying to "teach Obama a lesson" to focus on keeping the Senate from turning to the Republicans.
