I remember the nation I dropped out of high school to join as an adult. That first job allowed me to support myself modestly. A couple years later I paid for whole semesters of community college the same way I paid for groceries, from my weekly paycheck. We have so much to do just to reclaim what we had then. And then there's what we should be at this point...

(58,785 posts)since about 1968 and have grown far more problems than we've solved in that period as a result.
Until then our states all progressed to varying degrees under liberal federal government, red ones less but real, and all have declined to varying degrees under conservative government. All our most advanced, generally prosperous and culturally rich cities and states are dominated by liberal thinking.
And that holds true on a planetary scale as well. The world has always gone very bad in conservative-dominated eras, as it is now, with fascism rising everywhere, and has recovered to move forward in periods of liberal ascendance.
We lost far more than a four-year term of one party versus another in 2016.
