Why are the judges not standing up and telling this administration to fuck right off until they follow the rule of law?

Well, fuck. Here on the west coast it's the middle of the night so I won't be doing any research. But do we know this judge's name?

He drank a bottle of milk and played with a purple ball as he waited for the immigration judge, The Associated Press reported.
John W. Richardson, the judge at the Phoenix courthouse, said he was "embarrassed to ask" if the defendant understood the proceedings. "I don't know who you would explain it to, unless you think that a 1-year-old could learn immigration law," he told Johan's attorney.
The boy had been separated from his father, who left the United States for their country of Honduras under the impression that his son would go with him, Johan's lawyer said.
...
Young Johan, at the end of the hearing, was handed a voluntary departure order so that he can be flown to Honduras and into the arms of his family.

(3,514 posts)It says at the link that his father had already been sent back, and that Johan is being reunited with his family in Honduras. Obviously, ripping children from their parents is disgusting and immoral, but at this point isnt reunification the best option?

(3,514 posts)(#15). What options did the judge have? The family is back in Honduras (from what I read at the link...)

(11,882 posts)And this should be even more reasons why ALL republicans should be voted out of office. Mcconneell needs to lose control of the Senate or more picks will be installed to protect them from all the corruption, and treason going on. With full control of both houses in Congress we can hold them accountable, otherwise they'll escape justice, and he'll become our dictator instead of a president , and become above the rule of law.

(6,666 posts)1. The child had an attorney. He wasn't alone as wrongly reported.
2. The judge used the system to make sure the child is flown back to his father at taxpayer expense.
Don't know anything about this judge but he's The good guy in this case...trying to right a terrible wrong. We need them on our side. Please can we not trash the poor folks who ARE trying to help.

(4,076 posts)I feel for the people are trying to help in this fucked up situation. If the judge had protested and "quit" or something, that poor kid would probably be in a cage right now.
Hope the kid made it back to his father. Maybe they can seek asylum in a country that will treat them more kindly. North Korea, perhaps.

(11,778 posts)The one year old child was reunited in Honduras with his father. Isn't that what is considered the correct decision?
kag
(4,076 posts)But the "correct" decision would have been to allow them to stay in the U.S. together and given them a little head start on making a new life.
I swear, if we spent half the money providing asylum to these poor people instead of treating them like wild animals with rabies who just wandered into a playground, the government would save money on the deal.

(16,949 posts)to provide care for detained immigrants would go broke. Some were already struggling due to the decreasing prison population. Think of all the people who would lose their jobs? Sadly, they really believe that crap. Knowing they will be remembered as being on the wrong side of history is little comfort.

(961 posts)That'll make them think twice about entering this country. American Exceptionalism. Land of the free. Home of the brave. When words have lost all meaning, only people's actions define them. We are being defined by our actions as a country. I hope to see all of you out there right next to me with a sign in your hands.
