Pottering around the interwebs this morning, while pretending to do some work and amusing myself I cam across a meme. On initial impressions I thought it must be a progressive being sarcastic about how much trumpers adore their leader. On second examination the idea of 60 million socialist heads exploding scotched that idea.

1. God emperor trump has been a thing since the election

Thank the internet for it, it originated on either reddit or 4chan I think. There was a shortlived controversy last year when it was revealed that multiple military bases were using god emperor trump and Saint Mattis of Quantico images as placeholders for the official portraits.

I don't deny the very rightward slant of the military as I am former Army myself, but I think the portrait thing was more of a product the messed up sense of humor common in the military then anything else.

4. That God-Emperor thing refers to the Emperor from the Warhammer 40,000-series.

Warhammer 40,000 is basically a mix of fantasy and science-fiction, full of dystopian brutality and war.

The Emperor is an immortal superhuman being that violently united mankind under its rule and then used mankind to conquer most of the galaxy. After a gruesome battle (long story...) he fell into a coma, in which he has since been, as he is immortal. In his stead, a council rules the Imperium of Mankind. Over time, mankind started to venerate him as a god.



The Alt-Right loves this God-Emperor stuff because it feeds to their basest desires:

* Authoritarianism, with a male dictator.

* The Emperor was born in the Middle-East, but is always depicted caucasian. So that's a white male dictator.

* That whole militarism, manliness, heroism thing with guns and swords and monsters.

* Not having to acknowledge the existence of women or minorities or LGBT.
(Women and LGBT-characters are notoriously underrepresented: Dozens of novels, barely any female characters and just one lesbian couple. The topic of minorities is hardly explored because the Imperium of Mankind is racist: Oppressed racial minorities are just a backdrop to show how cold and void of empathy the Imperium is. Dozens of novels and maybe two or three with scenes from their perspective.)

5. DU got hacked on election night. Every time we tried to access the site a God Emperor video

would come up. It was a night mare.
