If it is true that Kennedy negotiated the Kavanaugh pick with Trump, all his decisions should be called into question. And this would merit a congressional investigation.

(8,200 posts)The Republicans have created a nightmare. They signed on to extremists spewing hatred without restraint. If they dare oppose them they will be challenge and defeated at the polls. There is no room for compromise or reason. The Democrats are the enemy and without any redeeming qualities. Their message is simple absolute hated of every Democrat. Anyone who would dare to suggest other is to be shunned and ostracized.

(7,725 posts)It's not like this is all hinging on some criticality that requires fast and furious action. We're talking about the fate of the nation. They spent 6 years on Benghazi....years on Whitewater, troopergate...blah blah blah. We get to investigate as well.

(I know, I know, The Federalist List . . . . But it's either what I proposed or have the Kennedy/Kavanaugh intrigue become a basis for voting him down, delaying a replacement UNTIL AFTER the November midterms.)

He is counting on the SC and republican congress to keep him in office and removed from indictments. The traitors will gladly help him out.

As well as every other vote for or against the thread this country is hanging by

(4,267 posts)IMO they don't care. This is a minor blip to them that will pass in a matter of weeks after they vote for him. Even if they had a moral compass, and regrets later on, they'll just probably not run for re-election.
I'm starting to get a very faint feeling, that the republicans who may still have a tiny tiny bit of decency in them are too intimidated to do or say anything. They may be afraid of the trumpers, the tea partiers, a Dump tweet.

(7,725 posts)The public confrontations seem to really bother them. Maybe if they think life isn't going to go on as usual, they will think twice. People confronting you w contrarian facts every time you step out of the house, is a rather bleak future. When they get real appalled at behavior, it's bc it's working. Don't be shamed from our position. We hold the moral high ground OF THE WORLD.

(51,583 posts)We are civil so why not? Do it to all of them like was already done to Sarah Fuckubee, Neilson, Miller and McConnell. They were really bothered...GOOD! Keep it up and increase it. Of course that's the endgame. He's stacking the deck so that no matter what Mueller comes up with, he will remain the Teflon Don. Everyone else will go to prison and he'll be happily shooting people on Fifth Avenue, without consequences.

(11,885 posts)And under investigations for corruption , treason , and a lot more , why would he be allowed to choose anyone until after he is vindicated, especially this guy he picked. He shouldn't be allowed on the court knowing this was all corruptly done to begin with. Any Senator who refuses to stop this has no business representing me or this country allowing this criminal to escape justice.

(6,831 posts)I have lost all respect for Anthony Kennedy. To me, the timing of his departure, the connection with his son working for Deutsche Bank, and the nomination of Kavanaugh, all indicate that he has sold his soul. But for what ? What does he get out of this ? Does he even understand what he is handing trump ?
I fear for our nation. I fear for our judiciary. I fear for all of the decisions/law/protections that are now going to be lost.

(24,402 posts)It should not be too hard to justify voting against his nomination. This sounds shady AF. POTUS shouldn't be having private conversations with SCOTUS Justices about their replacements- or really anything.

McConnell you POS you are involved in this too.

(18,964 posts)It was something like...how HONORED he was that Justice Kennedy had shown the TRUST IN HIM to choose a replacement.
If this stuff is true...the lying SOB had already cut the deal and the quid pro quo for letting Kennedy's son(s) off the hook at Duetsch Bank had already taken place.
I know that's just speculation but it all fits together too nicely for it to be just another one of a million coincidences that the trumpsters claim have happened (and are definitely not corrupt intent) since this clown took office.

(980 posts)should be able to choose the judge who will sit in a case against him. When Tangerine Tiberius is impeached, and prosecuted by the Congress and Senate, then the Supreme Court sits for the prosecution in his case. He should not be able to select ANY Supreme Court Justice until the investigation is over, and his name is cleared of any wrongdoing.

(27,800 posts)for having actual ties with the Bushes or the Bush campaign in 2000, why would they do it now? I hate to sound cynical, but the media failed us utterly in 2000 - not only by failing to report fully on what happened in Florida prior to the election, including, but not limited to, tossing at least tens of thousands of people off the rolls illegally, but by not seizing on the fact that Scalia's son worked for a firm representing Bush in Bush v. Gore, Thomas's wife was on the Bush inauguration committee, and Rehnquist's daughter was given a job in the administration.
If none of that was deemed worthy of recusal or investigation then, where does that leave us now?

It now sounds like Kennedy gave Trump the heads up he was retiring and was asked if he had any suggestions in regards to a replacement.

(7,402 posts)Selling a seat on the Supreme Court is not much different from Rod B. selling Obama's Senate seat and that landed him in federal prison. Also, I would think the Supreme Court ethics rules would prohibit this.

(9,127 posts)tangible evidence of a Trump/Kennedy agreement is necessary to bring this out of the realm of conspiracy theory.
Without it, there won't be any Congressional investigations, even we take back the House in force.

(37 posts)No way they wrote anything down, no way they had that discussion with anyone else in the room.
My gut says this story is heavily exaggerated but even if it was total back room horse trading...there is no way there is evidence of it. Trump is an idiot...but Kennedy is not.
