Rhode Island conservative Joe Trillo shipwrecked his yacht during a campaign stunt

Joe Trillo is a conservative businessman who was a Republican state representative.

Trillo was campaigning over the weekend by flying a large banner from his 65-foot yacht, the Lady M, as he sailed by beaches blaring patriotic music.

But Trillo got too close to shore, running aground and requiring rescue by the U.S. Coast Guard.

PRESS RELEASE - Independent Candidate Joe Trillo Thanks First Responders @projo @kathyprojo @IanDon @NBC10 @NBC10_Bill @wpri_feed @wpri12 @TedNesi @ABC6 @wpro @GoLocalProv @Tessa_Roy @NewsProvidence @RIRepublicans

Trillo had claimed that he hit an unmarked rock while he was a half-mile from shore, in what should have been 14 feet of water off the Charlestown Breachway. After the mishap he said he wanted to “work with NOAA to update the charts for other boaters.”

NOAA's charts failed to indicate a rock formation? And is this a NOAA responsibility?

Really? In the US? Close to shore? Bullshit.

Will anyone have the balls to correct this buffoon? Another boat captain, perhaps, citing navigation information available to all yacht captains? Will NOAA or any other appropriate agency respond or will they wring their hands in apology?

He and his captain fucked up. You know, that's fine. Shit happens. People are only human. They make mistakes. But, no, he has to fling that shit right back at the USG. Spineless. And you know something? Even if he's right (though I don't think he is), all he had to do was say thank you and be a decent human being. But these people don't have an ounce of decency, and they take their lead from the buffoon-in-chief. Independent my ass.

One more thing. 65' is only barely a yacht. It's more of a large power boat. And, in any case, I'm sure his fellow Rhode Islanders can identify with a "yacht" owner. After all, I'm sure a yacht is the preferred mode of transportation of the bulk of Rhode Islanders.

With all his money why didn't he hire a private firm instead of taking advantage of tax payer funded resources?

nav charts are NOT updated. Glad there is some justice in that event. Wish his boat was sent to the bottom, as another unmarked wreck.

Under fund a system resulting in it being less likely to work reliably and accurately, then blame the system when it predictably fails.

It's like putting great tires on your car, driving them long and hard to baldness, way past their replacement window, and when the blowout happens you blame the manufacturer, dealer, highway dept., etc. for their failure.

That shit don't fly.

And was anyone else unable to get needed services from the USGC during the time because he created a totally avoidable rescue with his stunt?

His free advertising was noise pollution to the nth degree for those who were trying to escape the heat with a relaxing day at the beach. Asshole! Karma's a bitch, Joe!

His trashcans on the beach idea sucks too. You know damn well those cans would be overflowing, with seagulls ransacking the barrels and trash blowing all over the beach. Oh, did I mention someone has to pay to have disposal services empty them? Carrying out your own trash is immediate, cheaper, and gives beachgoers responsibility for their own actions.
