(1,701 posts)those of us who are older don't have a lot to brag about considering the world that we are leaving to them. We have been on a downward slide ever since Reagan was elected president.

(22,794 posts)true for some percentage of millennials. But I just don't think you can peg an entire generation like that. Every generation has good people and bad people, and a whole lot of people in between. Most of them will grow up and learn from their mistakes like we all did. That said, I really enjoyed the song!

"As a millennial myself, I've heard so many hard stereotypes that have been firmly attached to my generation. Instead of shying away or ignoring any of them, I figured we might as well laugh about them together! Humor is such a disarming force," Tyler told The Christian Post, explaining why he created the video.
The song emphasizes stereotypes that are commonly said about the millennial generation. Tyler sings about coffee shops, man buns, Instagram selfies with inspirational quotes, and the attitude of entitlement. The 33-year-old created the video to debut at a leaders conference at Watermark Church in Dallas, Texas, in hopes that it would to break down barriers between the generations.

"As I stood before over 750 church leaders from all over the world at this conference, I knew we needed to get every elephant in the room out of the way so we could focus on living beyond the labels and link arms as one Body."

And what is the Watermark Church like?

We believe God created mankind in His image, forming each person in the womb from conception (Psalm 139:13-16; Isaiah 44:2, 49:5; Jeremiah 1:4-5) until the point of death when they breathe their last (Genesis 25:8; Luke 23:46); and assigning gender to His people, male (man) and female (woman), as He created them sexually and biologically different, but with equal personal dignity and value (Genesis 1:26-28).
We believe that God ordained marriage as a lifelong union between one man and one woman (Genesis 2:18; Matthew 19:4-9; Ephesians 5:31-33). Those who accept and live within Gods design for sex, biological gender and marriage experience the blessing of His good design (Psalm 1:1-3, 128:1-4), and decisions to change, alter or modify Gods will in marriage, sex or gender are part of mans brokenness and lead to despair. (Romans 1:21-22; James 1:13-15).

That's in their shortened, "must-believe" section, the rest of which is about God and other theological matters. But the 'Man' section, although lacking anything basic like "love your neighbour", is anti-abortion and anti-LGBT. That's their basic message on humanity.
What does that mean in practice?

And thats what he tried to do. He attended a church 12-step program, he went to a local conversion ministry, he prayed desperately to wake up one day and feel different. He never did.
At some point I realized that people dont change, you cant convert from gay to straight," he says. "So when I realized that, I decided Id be single for the rest of my life.

Eventually, Thomas started a relationship with another man. When he refused to break if off, the church removed him from membership.

So that's what the video was designed to do - get the kind of people who belong to that kind of church to say "hey, some millennials think like us after all!"
So, again: Fuck It.

(33,956 posts)I spend a lot of time with Millenials and I have to say that I think we are in good shape for the future.
I don't know why they get such a bad break. We are leaving them a country that borders on a shithole country,
we are leaving massive debt because the riches were given to the rich, they are saddled with high interest student loans, or destined to live with their parents because they don't make living wages, they aren't afforded health insurance and their future is relatively bleak.
The prior generations have destroyed the fabric of this country and instead of the beautiful quilt we were handed....we have handed them a threadbare rag and expect them to make a decent life with that.
Fuck US.
It is their job to fix what we allowed to be broken.

(855 posts)I haven't met or worked with every Milllenial in the world, but the ones I do know, directly or indirectly, give me confidence in our future. I'm a tail-end boomer. We didn't have coffee shops or Instagram when I was their age but I bet I'd have been into them too if we did. I also had way more confidence than I probably should have when I came face to face with earlier generations and started to learn how life really worked. Not because of participation trophies but because that's what good parents try to give their kids, whether you approve of the method or not. And, sin of all sins, I voted for a third party candidate while in college too - because I wanted to kick convention on its ass and because I thought maybe we could.
The Milllenials I've had the opportunity to mentor were hard working, conscientious, and eager to learn. I doubt it was because of my great leadership. They remind me a lot of myself back in the early eighties.
The kids from Marjory Stoneman Douglas are millenials. Are they people to laugh at? Or do they give you confidence?
This whole generation bashing stuff is stupid, IMO. We have differences and we have similarities. We are all products of our times and the unique pressures and issues that prevailed during our formative years. Why create artificial divisions? Especially now, when we need to unite more than ever?
Youth and ignorance go together due to lack of life experience. But age and wisdom are supposed to go together too. I'm just not not seeing that second one here.
If the OP was meant as humor, it should have been posted in the Lounge.
