CIA analyst says ‘republic is burning’ because American institutions are not up to battling Trump’s authoritarianism

The United States was not designed to withstand the sort of authoritarian onslaught we’re seeing from Donald Trump, former CIA analyst Nada Bakos warned on Wednesday night.

Appearing on Don Lemon’s CNN program, Bakos expounded upon a tweet where she warned that “the republic is burning.”

I have a gut feeling it will get so much worse before it gets better when we will have to rebuild our country, its norms and institutions. Germany is one example when they got out of hitler regime, rebuilt the country to become better than ever. US will need to reform its constitution via convention. The current one failed us miserably and cannot stand. Buckle up, we are eyeing withdrawal from NATO and UN, complete stop of any and all immigration, obliteration of markets leading to second great depression which will result in significant increase in violent crimes. Millions will lose their life savings and pensions, millions more will have no health insurance, etc.
By the way, don’t forget that Kennedy authored majority opinion in Citizens United which is directly linked to the rise of fascism.

But the conditions that permitted the rise of McCarthy and Nixon endure. Fortunately for us and for the world, McCarthy was a mere thug and Nixon’s mafia overstepped the bounds of acceptable trickery and deceit with such obtuseness and blundering vulgarity that they were called to account by powerful forces that had not been demolished or absorbed. Only perhaps he will choose his domestic enemies more judiciously and prepare the ground more thoroughly.

All it took was Citizens United. The SCOTUS was warned by one of their own members that their ruling was opening the way for foreign powers to take over US elections and they let it happen anyway, meaning that the right wing has always intended to commit treason.
