https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2017/12/171218154235.htmQuestion:
A) Do you assume from the title that *all* marine turtles are dying?
...or...
B) Is it implied and understood that only *some* marine turtles are dying?
Bonus question:
Would reading the article in its entirety clarify the matter, thus negating any (silly) need to assume that the answer is 'A'?

Wait, what? I went to your link and read the article. It is not ALL it's
So very sad. We must stop polluting our oceans and our conversations with that gotcha meme. Not all!

(25,128 posts)Somehow this is a rule. There would be angry comments: "How can you say all white marine turtles are dying? I'm a white marine turtle and HERE I AM, ALIVE! These posts are divisive. All you want to do is stir up plastic rubbish."

...if a headline leads with "white people," all of a sudden it's as if brains are shut off. Brains that ordinarily would very clearly understand that the headline is not referring to *all* of the subject in question.
We've seen this happen repeatedly on this site. And it only goes to show how much of a white supremacist culture we're all swimming in.
And when people actually have the nerve to refer to articles about what I would call the pandemic of racism in the US as being "racist," I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I expect it from Trumpies, but...
Anyway, Robin DiAngelo put it so well when she said racism is "an act or a dynamic that is backed by the weight of history, legal authority and institutional control."
I doubt the authors of the articles featured in the following threads will face a backlash:

*All* drugmakers, right? *All* Puerto Ricans in Florida, right?
