Is anyone watching MSNBC? Trump at NATO breakfast

Trump claiming Germany is controlled by Russia since they buy natural gas from Russia.

Germany is a "captive" of Russia.

Trump is wondering why the U.S. "protects" Germany from Russia if Germany is a "captive" of Russia.

Since the Marshall plan after WW2, we have helped rebuild all those Countries, provided Military protection while they poured money into their countries.

Germany signed that billion dollar contract giving those billions to Russia while refusing to pay to protect their own countries.

Our Country is falling apart while we still pay for their protection.

So guys have at me. This is the only thing I agree with Trump on except unfair tariffs. China is the biggest one.

Trump may be a Bull in a China Shop, but he is objecting to the things people have been complaining about since the 1980’s.

Democrats need to think long and hard about these things. It is why so many voted for Trump.

We have been taken advantage of over the years and Trump is using that anger to feed his base! It is time for Democrats to face the reality, instead of just ranting about Trump!

EVERY US concern for the past seventy years has been taken to our allies for approval and support, who even when we are being stupid as sh*t jump right on board.

You say "cheated on trade deals" I say "obtained a favorable negotiating position."

And dollar by dollar INFINITELY cheaper than the money we give the useless rich people with "yachts with tiny yachts inside them."

Cause the Trump-voting "workers" you are so concerned about actually laughed in my face when I mentioned those things. Frankly those sociopaths actually were happy that a liberal was losing even if they were also losing. So, pal, those are the new rules of the game.

I’m not taking about the hard core Confederate flag waving, MAGA hat wearing deplorable. Yeah, they are as you described.

But we never catch thier votes.

I’m taking about those middle of the road types who are willing to look past his flaws because on things like trade he says what they want to hear. Those voters who swapped from Obama to Trump in states like PA and Michigan.

Yes, they are smart enough to look at these issues. They do see that they have been negatively affected by trade deals in the past. And they blame other negative effects on the trade deals too. They typically have more military experience than the general population so they understand that the US has carried a disproportionate load for NATO for some time now.

They were willing to overlook so many of Trumps flaws because he spoke to what mattered to them in a way that made them feel like he would change things. Yeah, it was BS- but he reached them.

Don’t just dismiss them. It can be argued that ignoring those voters in states like WI and MI in the last campaign was a huge mistake.... he spoke to them, we did not.

2) Anyone but Hillary.

3) Liberal tears.

I live in NC. I grew up in a textile town.

There is still deep resentment over the loss of textile jobs with nothing replacing them.

Now, not all that is the fault of trade deals. Some of it is just how the economics swung as the world changed.

But a whole, whole lot of people, right or wrong, feel this way.

They grew up when you could graduate high school, get a job in the mill, work your job and make a living. Have a home, a family, a boat, and a pension when you finished.

In the 90’s not just the textile mills there but a bunch of other closed. People lost jobs. There were no new jobs for them, the new jobs required skills they didn’t have and nobody tried to help them get. Ross Perot was on TV blaming Bill Clinton and NAFTA.

And to some extent he was right. My dad worked in maintenance in plants and later had a business repairing textile machines and selling parts. He was there when the companies brought people in to pack up what machines they felt were worth moving to send to Mexico and when they didn’t want the rest he got it to sell parts to keep other mills going.

Some workers found themselves in the humiliating position of having to work their last days training their replacements that were flown up from Mexico to learn the equipment, and they had to stay and train their low paid replacement to get the severance. That sting has never gone away for them.

I think you need to study up on history. Germany and Japan have constitutional limits on their ability to have an offensive military because we made them do it after WWII. So if you have a complaint about them take it up with Truman, Marshall and Ike.

By 2024 most all European nations will provide 2% of their GDP to defense as NATO agreed in 2014. President Obama already solved the problem. Of course that may now be at risk since Trump is making it harder for them to fulfill their commitments since it looks like he is caving in to them.

And the idea that our huge military(4+ of our GDP) is there to protect Europe or even Japan is crazy. We could spend 2% like we want them to, and still fulfill our obligation. But then we would not have troops in over 100 countries and be able to do things like invade Iraq.

Way under 2% of our GDP is spent defending Europe whereas almost 100% of European outlaws are for NATO.

Your trade opinions are as misplaced as your view of NATO. But then again, as you freely admit you agree with Trump so it is not surprising.

Wake up, Democrats and face the anger that gave us Trump, instead of ranting about him.

Tell me how we are protecting Germany and how that is preventing an infrastructure and green energy bill for us.

The anger that gave us Trump is primal - purely xenophobic - against race, ethnicity, gender, other countries... all except Russia. Those who love Trump are too blinded by their own hate and fears to listen to reason. The world is constantly changing and if we don’t change along with it, we’ll be left behind.

For Heavens sake ,Eisenhower built the Interstate system after WW 2! Now, all we do is patch patch. Our bridges and Highways have been crumbling since thenyou can go off about deplorable, Trump, all you like, but this anger is real!

Until Democrats understand this, we will be in the minority!

Republicans all the way. The anger is real. Democrats do understand this. It is just that the anger is bullshit, because these poor folks have been victimized by a Republican bait and switch their whole lives. How do combat the lies when folks are hearing exactly what they want to hear?

for the wealthy and corporations and let us not forget our wars of choice. Since they don't mind those drains on our treasury maybe those deplorable should get a little smarter and focus their anger on the main problem. Why should we have to get dumber to appease them?

52. So do you want the US to leave NATO?
Wed Jul 11, 2018, 06:34 AM
Jul 2018

Or what's the plan that you'd prefer? NATO just means that the US, like every other NATO country, protects all other NATO countries. If the US leaves NATO, it won't have to protect Germany, Poland or Estonia, but they won't help the US in Afghanistan or wherever the US needs help next time. Also, I guess that the US Army will have to pay for their bases in Germany where they manage wars in the middle east if they're no longer a NATO member.

I'm German, and I can tell you that quite a few Germans would like the US to leave NATO, and the US Army to leave Germany. I'm not one of them. I think NATO is a pretty clever idea. The US could simply cut down on military spending a little and try to stay out of wars so NATO can focus on actual defense mechanisms. That should be a lot cheaper.

Obviously, our Bundeswehr needs to get their shit together. It is in a terrible state, but that's not mainly due to underfunding. Almost makes you wonder if Putin somehow managed to put Russian agents in to manage German military. I'm not opposed to spending 2% of GDP on defence, but it won't improve the situation a lot unless there are huge improvements in mangement.

Having interacted with many Trumpsters "angry" at America, I find it isn't as well focused as you claim. Sure, like a downing man they'll latch onto this and say "see this is the reason we voted for Trump" but when you press them they know little to nothing about the issue. They are uninformed. In the end, their real reasons will never see the light of day because even Trumpsters don't want the rest of us thinking that poorly of them.

That's what makes Trumpsters so susceptible to Russian Troll Farmers. I mean most of that Russian manipulation is transparent and laughable, put together by a talentless idiotic nearly infinite team of monkeys who think to themselves they are hitting their keyboards writing Shakespeare but who in reality sometimes manage to drool out something full of racist potty humor that the weak minded Trumpies will grab onto. But the adults are largely onto their game now.

Despises Trump.

But for once,or twice Trump is right.

We need to stop the Military protection of those wealthy Countries and many Trade agreements hurt the manypufacturing sector.

Until we deal with why so many are angry we are going to fail.

Our bloated Military, taking care of other countries that can well afford their own, there will be no money to fix our Infrastucture, support the programs we now have.

Time for a drastic change.

meant so people with yachts with little yachts inside can afford a third yacht to hold both of them (thanks Alexandria for nailing the GOP corporate welfare queen so perfectly).

I think we should stop making handouts to billionaires before we cut anything that benefits the average citizen. Our "bloated" military ensures that Putin and China are not going to walk all over our interests and it employs more Americans than anything Trump has ever done.

Do you agree?

It was horrendous as most Republican tax cuts always are.

But I also stand by the bloated Military remark. We have many times what we need for protection.

What we really need is Infrastructure programs, fixing the ACA, providing better Health care for the 30 to 65 year group.

We seriously need to fund our Public Education, make Higher Edipucation more affordable. Strengthen our Skilled Trades.

I have even discussed a basic wage for those who are living at the Poverty level, combine the hashed up Health care into one, make Welfare go away.

I could go on and on.

Democrats need a simple plan, one that all can understand.

The issue of NATO countries like Germany not living up to their obligations to maintain certain levels of military readiness and spending is one of them.

We are carrying the load for them in many ways.

And it is a real issue.

But, dammit, I want it pressed and pushed by a responsible leader, not by Trump.

But just because he voices it don’t reject it as absolutely not a problem. Because it is, and one that our next President and Democratic controlled House and Senate will need to address.

So don’t be so fast to clamor there isn’t an issue. It isn’t as Trump frames it, but there is an issue. And since we know he will not get it fixed it will be on us to do it when the adults are back in charge.
