As tariffs begin, Northwest Indiana auto workers and farmers share concerns

http://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/post-tribune/news/ct-ptb-tariffs-soybean-reaction-st-0710-story.html

The United States imposed the first duties on $34 billion of Chinese goods on Friday, the latest step in an escalating tariff war with several countries that experts said could take a devastating toll on a wide range of Northwest Indiana residents and businesses — from its soybean and pork farmers to auto makers and workers to consumers of products ranging from sweaters to TVs.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce stated on its website that $1 billion in Indiana exports are being threatened by the tariffs, with certain types of steel, iron, yachts, other boats and canoes among the hardest hit products in the state.

The chamber also reported that 812,600 Indiana jobs are supported by global trade.

"Tariffs imposed by the U.S. are nothing more than a tax increase on American consumers and businesses, including manufacturing, farmers and tech companies, who will all pay more for commonly used products and materials," the chamber stated.

Let's see if those supporters are still going to support him with no jobs and no revenue coming in.
