Benczkowski was just confirmed 51-48

NEW: The Senate just confirmed Brian Benczkowski to lead the DOJ's Criminal Division in a 51-48 vote. He has no prosecutorial experience ... but he does have experience providing legal representation for Russia's Alfa Bank, starting in March 2017.

I'm guessing he got offered a good deal when Russia entirely takes over the US in the upcoming dictatorship.

Even if some of his votes (like this one) suck.

Let's look at the big picture and play the long game.

and take the gavel away from Mitch McConnell.

We need to reclaim the majority before we can have any real power. Manchin is a D senator in a deep red state, who often votes the wrong way, but we need his seat filled by a D. He won't be setting the agenda once Ds have the gavel.

and we won't have the option to retake the Senate. He just makes such horrible decisions that are detrimental to this country.

what it takes to survive politically as a Democrat in WV.

For the moment, attacking Manchin is shooting ourselves in the foot. I'm sure his Republican opponent (and Mitch McConnell, and the Russians) would love nothing more. Let's not give them the pleasure.

Look, when we have a 5 seat majority in the Senate with room to spare, let's talk. At that point, Manchin's vote won't matter anyway. But his seat being occupied by a Democrat right now DOES matter. It is not worthless.

Eyes on the prize -- getting a Senate majority. Nothing else is as important except for getting a House majority.
