Granted, NATO and the G-7 have to invite the president of the US to its clubhouse meetings. At least I assume they do.
But they don't have to talk to him or be nice to him, do they?
They should take a leaf from the Amish and shun him. Just ignore him. Leave him sitting on his own, as we've seen in pictures. Don't try to persuade him of anything. He doesn't know, and he doesn't care. He doesn't understand what Merkel means when she talks about having been under Soviet/Russian occupation. You might as well be talking about particle physics. When the other leaders are talking to each other, exclude trump. Stop talking when he joins the group. If he talks, asks questions, etc., answer only in monosyllables or not at all. Or take the Huckabee Sanders approach to every issue and say they'll get back to him. And then don't. If the US needs something from them - anything - just say no. No to joint military exercises. No on funding issues. No on any cooperation of any kind. Start talking about reducing US military presence in Europe, certainly no enlargement. When he attacks with tariffs, attack harder, at his base. File claims with the WTO on all of trump's violation of trade treaties and agreements. If they have any options, they should not invite him anywhere, for anything. If he requests meetings, deny them. And if they must accept, keep the visits to the lowest possible level government official. No meeting kings or queens. Decline to approve visits by specific individuals for their racist, bigoted, white supremacist policies.
