Forest preserve cop resigns after apparently failing to help woman being harassed over Puerto Rico shirt

The Cook County Forest Preserve District police officer who was caught on video seemingly ignoring a woman’s call for help has resigned, the district announced late Wednesday.

Officer Patrick Connor’s resignation is effective immediately, and as of Wednesday he “no longer serves in the police department,” a district spokeswoman said in a written statement.

The announcement came amid a growing chorus of calls for the officer to lose his job over the encounter, which happened in mid-June but became an international scandal this week when video footage of the incident went viral and drew millions of views.

In the video, shot at Caldwell Woods in Chicago, a man confronts and berates a woman for wearing a Puerto Rico shirt. The woman appeals to the officer for help but the officer, seen in the background just yards away, appears not to respond.

And good grief. The ignorance about Puerto Rico is as stunning as the political and whatever malice.

police or law enforcement were referred to as 'keepers of the peace' and at the very least, the peace was being disturbed by that guy. For the officer to do nothing is certainly grounds for discipline/dismissal...........

And they will either have had an experience like this or have a family member or friend who has. This type of behavior is nothing new by our nations "defenders of the peace." It's just being filmed more.

I hear an interesting exchange on CNN once. A bunch of talking heads are going on about the latest police outrage. One of them says something to the effect of "restoring the trust between the AA community and the police". The AA member of the bunch said "you can't restore what never existed". He went on about Bull Connor, the LA police departments past, and other examples of how the AA community has never had a reason to "trust" the police.
