I'm really starting to hate white Americans.

I’m a white American and I’m now ashamed to be one.
I’ve lived in almost all parts of this country and visited most of the rest.
I keep searching to find white Americans that don’t disgust me.
I’m still looking.
Most seem to have been so dumbed down.
They seem to be so shallow and uninteresting.
The things they talk about are so trivial and their worlds are so small.
Most no longer hide the fact that they are bigoted, racist, sexist, homophobic, anti-“Other”.

The Karl Rove’s and Roger Ailes’ and Rush’s of the world have gotten their wish.
They set out to define a “real American” as someone with minimal formal education who was overly patriotic and isolationist.
They set out to define a “bad or non-real American” as someone with too much education and a worldly view. Labeled as the “liberal, or educated elite” - they became the OTHER.
A smart, independent thinking white American was a threat to what they wanted to build.
They needed lemmings that would follow along in the name of faux patriotism, faux religion, and suspension of factual information.

White America, by and large, bought in to this easy way out.
Just give them a job or jobs (however low paying).
Call them the real America and let them blame the OTHER for all of their problems.
They will then follow their corporate and political and religious overlords anywhere.
Even to Russia.

Unfortunately, non-white Americans and the 30% or so liberal elite white Americans are now being ruled by these same Overlords who have seized almost all economic and political power in our nation.
Will November’s midterms start a change back to sanity?
Can white America change or must it be beaten?
We shall see.

More than 24 million white people voted for Clinton. Sure about 2 out of every 3 white people who voted, voted for Trump, but that's still a lot of us who didn't vote for Trump. I live in a city that is 80% white. In 2016, there were 4 races on the ballot. Other than the presidential election, there wasn't a Republican on the ballot.

identity politics has cost us a lot of seats in 2016. We can’t win elections without white people so hating them will only make matters worse. When I am at work, we don’t discuss any politics related news. I work with couple of die hard trumpees (bumper stickers, red hats, went to rallies, etc.) but paradoxically they are some of the best employees and I have learned to dissociate at work. This is called being professional. And it is an essential part of American business culture. Workplace may be the most influential environemnt for trumpees. Non-discrimination policies force them to work with non-white people who are professionally no different. This can be the only place where racists get a chance to interact with other races (or sexual orientations) and see that those people are no different.

Go volunteer for a campaign. you will meet lots. Ask them to share their stories too. It was my favorite part of the Obama campaign. We would have a group meeting either upon organizing as a meet and greet or before phone calls or walk lists. Listening to the personal testimonial of the people there and why they were supporting Obama was powerful.

Let's acknowledge that there are disgraceful and traitorous PoC who voted for Trump, and there are enlightened and virtuous whites who voted for Hillary and stood (and continue to stand) with the oppressed.

That being said, Trump's rise to power, like Reagan's and the current GOP, was/is driven by white racial backlash against civil rights and social justice movements of the 60's and beyond.

Sanders rise to power is part of the same white backlash in a different way, about the white left's resentment to 'identity politics' they feel come at the expense of the white proletariat.

This isn't about some 'bad apple' whites but about a solid majority, who voted for the birther-in-chief Trump who degraded the first black president and who throws PoC kids in cages, who unleashed a movement that is an existential threat to nonwhite America in a way that white Americans simply don't understand.
