"The Pause of Mr. Claus"

Life is curious. Fifty years ago, Arlo Guthrie release his classic song, "The Pause of Mr. Claus," which featured a hilarious tribute to the FBI agents in the audience. I can remember sitting around with college friends, listening to this while we smoked the demon weed (careful not to inhale!) and drinking massive quantities of alcohol (but not swallowing any). There may have been sugar cubes dancing in our heads, too. Of course, it is important to place these behaviors on our part in context: this was the era of J. Edgar Hoover.

I kept thinking about that today, as I watched Peter Strzok testify before a congressional committee. Without any influence from the vitamins that my college friends and I took to help us study decades ago, I found myself laughing almost as hard today. As toxically obnoxious as the republicans were, I found the Democrats to be on point and impressive. Some of what they said, although totally serious, was funny. It exposes what pathetic assholes the republicans are.

More, I found Mr. Strzok to be honest, honorable, and highly intelligent. Without being disrespectful -- much less hostile -- he, too, exposed the republicans as petty, lying carp. Despite the "rules" being stacked against him on an unlevel playing field, he kicked their behinds. I was impressed.

I am impressed with his stamina -- after all those hours -- and never really losing his cool. Very impressive. I can't say I LIKED him, but then that's not really necessary, is it?

I'm not inclined to think he'd fit in at one of our college reunions. (grin) Though, come to think of it, some FBI agents visited our campus, to talk to a dean about our political activities. But he was impressive.

And the dems got in quite a few zingers.

Gerry Connolly reading out GOP emails denouncing trump.

Sheila Jackson Lee holding up Manafort's mug shot AND going line-by-line through all of Trump's links to Russia that have nothing to do with Strzok.

Karen Handel calling trump a TARGET of the investigation (okay not a dem but still).

Bonnie Watson Coleman telling Gowdy to control himself "this is not Benghazi!" and reminding everyone that FBI revealed Clinton emails NOT the fact that trump campaign was under investigation. She said GOP should be thanking Strzok.

Luis Gutierrez "there are two people that are thrilled and excited today; the folks over at Fox News and at the Kremlin because they both worked on one thing, electing president trump president of the united States of America."

Elijah Cummings lists guilty Trump officials, with huge photos to match.

Hakeem Jeffries saying Strzok wasn’t even worth the an investigation by fictional pet detective Ace Ventura.

David Cicilline releasing the transcript of Strzok's private interview with the Committee.

Ted Lieu just generally cutting the whole thing down to size. We've got more than 3000 kids ripped from their parents and here we are discussing Hillary Clinton’s e-mails from 2016. That’s just dumb.

TODAY WAS A GOOD DAY FOR AMERICA.

I'm pleased. I want the dems to continue every day this way, through the midterms.
