What is dismaying is how successful they were. Where were the FBI, CIA, NSA, NDA and their counterparts in Britain?

But we were confined to newspapers and print media. Putin used social media to take disinformation to a whole new level and powerfully influenced two huge votes.

We rat fucked a lot of governments in our time for sure.

But, as you noted, the use of social media is the equivalent of injecting heroin into people, it is a direct line into their blood stream and overtakes them ...

and the means to spread (dis)information. And it is being turned against us. Who woulda thought? We're consistently suffering from "unintended consequences."

we took for granted that it was "just harmless" social media. We invented it, so we were not aware of its other more nefarious possibilities.

I use the same phrase about coming down the elevator,

I know he is a psychopath, and even knew he was russia dirty from his Casinos ... I told people that day, he was no joke, that he was a very real threat to win the nomination because he was what the republican party was devolving into, and that if he did, this country was absolutely stupid enough to make him POTUS.

was too strong to defeat as a coherent unit, but one person (the President) could go a long way in destroying us. If that person was despicable enough and weak enough. Enter greedy billionaire, Donald whatever his name is, and Presto! Russia wins without breaking a sweat.
