Jill Stein's Recount Cash Pays for Her Russia Legal Defense

Former Green Party nominee Jill Stein promised her donors they would have a say where the leftover money they gave to fund the 2016 recount was spent. They didn’t.

Money that Jill Stein raised to recount votes in 2016 swing states is being used by her campaign to pay for legal bills stemming from the investigation of Russian interference in the last presidential election.

"donated" to her thieving "recount efforts" - everything was a sham - fleecing money from desperate folk like me. I've asked for a refund many times, accompanied by my angry opinion of her. All that's accomplished is to get me off her email list (I guess she's still out there "fundraising".

evident that the Green Party did not have a realistic approach, and spewing the false equivalency rhetoric, which I might add was done this time too, has only resulted in one disaster after another. This one is going to be much more difficult to recover from since we have lost at least two SC seats

Incidently, I know a good number of hard-core Hillary supporters who donated to that recount effort also. You were not alone

all so desperate, and it was obvious that the Russians stole the election. Nothing was being done and that damn Trump train kept heading toward us. I never really paid attention to Stein during the election, not realizing how she was a part of the Russian end game. I was played.

Ignore my previous "suckers" snark. It was really uncalled for, and I am going to self-delete

We need to think about how vulnerable we are. Your discussion opens self-reflection and self analysis.

The former, I think, i.e. directly to the recount effort.

Whereas Stein over-collected money for the recount, trying to save her ass because she could see she has some blame. Then she used the money for her own benefit, it is alleged.

Stein’s campaign is planning to reach out to each of its 161,000 donors and ask them to vote on which “non-partisan election reform and voting rights organizations” will receive the leftover money. The campaign did not immediately release a list of possible organizations, but said it will do so “in the coming weeks” when it begins surveying donors.

Under FEC law, money raised into a recount account can only be used for recount-related expenses -- and a campaign must reach out to donors to either refund their excess donations or ask them whether the funds can be used for another purpose. Based on Tuesday’s announcement, it sounds like Stein’s campaign is looking to go the route of repurposing the funds.

Many were in an understandable mental fog. I remember a conversation I had with a poster here that I respect very much. They said they were donating and I questioned them on it. I told them that I saw it as a scam and that Stein was doing nothing more than confirming the numbers for Trump. They told me they saw it as an option of last resort and understood they were throwing their money away. They viewed it as a part of fighting on all front.

To be clear, the manner in which Stein acted was going to do nothing more than confirm the numbers for Trump. It was the only possibility. She didn't know what she was doing and didn't have competent people around her.
