KS-01: Bernie and I agree for once. Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez to campaign for James Thompson
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and progressive Democratic Congressional nominee Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.). are coming to Wichita next Friday (July 20) to endorse Kansas Democrat James Thompson.
A campaign rally for Thompson sis set for 1 p.m. Friday (July 20) at Wichita's Orpheum Theatre (200 N. Broadway). Doors open at noon.
Thompson is running against fellow Democrat Laura Lombard for the Democratic nomination for the state's 4th Congressional District. Voters will head to the polls Aug. 7 to determine which candidate will head to the November general election.
The 4th Congressional seat is currently held by Rep. Ron Estes. Estes also faces a challenger in the Aug. 7 Republican Primary. The Congressman's Primary opponent is Ron M. Estes.
Sanders planned visit to Wichita won't be the first time a big name has come to Kansas to support a political candidate.
Earlier this week, Vice President Mike Pence campaigned for Kevin Yoder in Kansas City. Yoder is running for the state's 3rd Congressional District.
