Was discussing this earlier, but here is how the grifter tramp dressed for the queen. Inappropriate is an understatement. Also, Idiot in Chief committed major offenses in his VERY brief encounter with the queen.

(36,926 posts)C'mon people, it's not the 1950s.
Melania and Ivanka are physically attractive and like showing off their curves.. nothing wrong with that.
Their problem is their ugly values and enabling of a fascist traitor.

(3,635 posts)I do support their right to 'rock the look' they want to.
As a man of color I much prefer a curvier look like J.Lo, Kim Kardashian (before all the surgery), Beyonce, Christina Hendricks, etc.

(6,399 posts)Frankly, I'm still looking at the image above and trying to figure out what it is everyone is so excited about. I know it's a tight outfit but if you say "butt crack" to most people that's not what you get.
I still don't find it inappropriate. But that's not the issue. It's the venom here that's exactly like how conservatives acted toward Obama. Too many of us are becoming that which we hate and are blind to it.

(62,270 posts)The Royal Family is going to be extraordinarily attentive to stuff like this. That this picture was tweeted out by their official channel on Twitter is absolutely a message.
So on that count it does merit discussion because it is a political thing. Granted a lot of people aren't talking about the political message but rather how trashy it is, but that's what the message is from the Royal Family.

I don't like the way it looks (for that matter, I don't like a lot of modern fashion), but let's focus on the more-objectionable events of today rather than how clearly one could make out the FLOTUS's posterior, m'kay?

(29,674 posts)In a political capacity then yes, taste and class should apply. They have enough money for clothes that fit properly and they have plenty of people around them to educate them on expected etiquette.
What might not make a difference stateside can make a huge difference internationally. If the resources are available there is no reason not to avail themselves.

(22,976 posts)But even that bit of brilliance doesnt make this thread non-antithetical to DU.
I know, with that idiotic message trench coat, and for cribbing Michelle Obamas speech, and her Be best flop, etc., Melania is fair game. And what would Republicans say about a Democratic First Lady (like the horribly racist remarks made about Michelle O.)?
Still, it just doesnt feel good to tear into a woman who sold her soul, but who is nonetheless a woman, and the mother of an autistic (by all appearances) son.
dflprincess
(28,075 posts)And let's not forget that while there are claims she's so protective of her son, she had no problem selling his image to various publications. Anything for a buck.

Fuck that noise The height of her stupidity.
She and her clothes are fair game after she used her clothing to make such an ugly statement. NO sympathy for her any more.
And NO, it does not lessen us to criticize her in this way. Like it or not, in Western society, clothes are important. There are rules about proper attire in various situations, and this is inappropriate. Period. It's also ugly and unflattering. Oh, and tasteless.

MoonRiver
(36,926 posts)It was the "style" after all. Every self-respecting girl and woman had to have one. Eventually we all rebelled and permanently ditched girdles. Wow, can hardly believe what women had to put up with back in the day. Sleeping in big hard hair rollers is another example.

(I STILL have my damn Miss Clairol "makeup mirror" that has different light settings, sitting on my dresser )
Edit to add - I have told my grown nieces that the worst thing that a woman could experience was -
1.) bra strap showing
2.) slip showing
3.) panty line visible through dress or skirt or pants

(36,926 posts)At my junior high we were told by administration that we had to wear bobby socks and loafers, usually penny, to school. We also had to wear skirts a little below our knees, no longer, no higher. Anyway, at some point I decided my legs looked better without socks and rebelled. I still wore the loafers, but no socks. All the other girls soon followed suit. RESIST!
