'Headline stress disorder': How to cope with the anxiety caused by the 24/7 news cycle

A study by the American Psychological Association released last year found that two-thirds of Americans are stressed out over the future of the country, and the constant consumption of news cycle was pinned as a major contributor. Dr. Steven Stosny, a therapist coined the term “headline stress disorder” in the wake of the 2016 presidential election.

Our television is a movie player, that's all it does.

DVDs and Netflix. No cable, no satellite, no broadcast television, and best of all, no commercials.

Unlike television, visiting my internet news sites, or reading my newspapers, I don't have to suffer anything more than actual headlines. And there's no advertising screaming at me. If I don't want to read a story, I simply don't, by not clicking on internet links, or by turning the page on newspaper stories.

We quit Comcast years ago and haven't looked back.

to feel upset and powerless. You can also get there from staring at your phone, tablet, laptop or desktop monitor. Not to mention the radio...
