I am going to a parade tomorrow with a freshly made protest sign AND I call reps from other states and districts all the time (I use addresses from Zillow listings in the particular areas that I am supposedly calling from to be taken seriously...it has worked for over a year).

But I look at the news and the GOP and the deplorables and I know we can never change their teeny, tiny brains. Fux Ruse is to blame for 50% of this shitshow in my opinion...how do we combat that?

Do not get at least the majority in either the Senate or the House so that there is a real check on trump and what he can do the country is lost. Right now I think we can still recover...but what that looks like I do not know. I think part of what we were is lost forever already. We will never be back to how it used to be where even though the two parties had differences they would at least work with each other.

The “tea party” or “freedom caucus” and their zero compromise position is still going to have to be dealt with even if Dems get a majority. Just how bad things have to get before they are all either run out of office or realize that they have to compromise...I don’t know.

AND take back the Senate in November.

Trump has been furiously lining up the courts for himself. If he succeeds, we may be over unless we can take back both houses and even then it may be too late.

It's a very perilous time. Very. We're right on the cusp is the way it feels to me.

We've got marriage equality, the first two more odious versions of the travel ban were rejected and people came out of nowhere to protest it, people have been fighting for science, for women, for migrant families. The ACA is still standing. In 18 months, Republicans have basically only managed to pass one bill because they aren't a functional party. We won a Senate seat in freaking Alabama. We're winning seats all over the place. We've got the Lilly Lebetter Act, the CFPB is still standing. Scott Pruitt is gone and he wasn't nearly as effective at screwing up the EPA as claimed. Trump is still mired in abysmal approval ratings.

If we lose in November, we try again. I really don't get this desire to run around screaming that the world is coming to an end. First it's not helpful to motivate people to tell them it's a lost cause. Second when people realize the world didn't stop spinning tomorrow, you wind up losing credibility when you claim the world is over the next time.

This is a terrible situation and it is extremely serious. I fear for my country and I will not wait for the so called citizens to "wake up". If they haven't woken up and smelled the coffee by now than our democracy is up the creek without a boat, paddle and even a creek! We have to get angrier, louder, and ACTIVATE people NOW! We on DU are politically aware but most of the country is a bunch of somnambulists walking off a cliff.
