Sobering reality we need to keep in mind. Kind of depressing reality actually.

I am fortunate to have a private office and a large computer monitor on the wall opposite my desk. After watching World Cup games on the monitor for the last month, I tuned in to the DOJ press conference today. I leave my door wide open, I don't hide that I'm broadcasting on this monitor when I have it turned on. But I am also respectful and keep the volume at a level where it won't impact the other people with offices on the same hallway unless they step into my office.

As they did during the World Cup games, a few people here and there popped their heads in today during the DOJ press conference and asked me what was going on. Their reaction was remarkably similar. Essentially "Oh, this is something you care about that means nothing to me."

My explanations about what was transpiring in the US legal system generated almost no response at all.

There was no knee jerk defense of Trump and/or the GOP.

But neither was there:

* concern for the integrity of our election systems.
* outrage that Russia had been identified as a confirmed adversary.
* curiosity that Americans could be implicated as co-conspirators.

I tried to engage in some conversations after I left work today and my efforts only cemented what I suspected. Most Americans don't know and/or don't care about what happened today. They really don't. I am sure it is for hundreds of reasons, but it's true. We know. We follow. We care. Most don't. Never forget that. It's truly important.

ETA: One word about my soccer fetish and I'm blocking you!

a lot people in this country won’t appreciate the values of freedom and democracy until they have lost them.

I would say we don't pay attention because we are here, but rather we here because we wish to pay attention.

Most of America have no idea whatsoever what is happening, not even close. Hell, we don't really know even here and we work at it night and day

outside their own lives. Kids in cages? Doesn't impact them. Russians running the country? Taxes were cut. Billions of dollars being given to the top 1%? Just government as usual.
