FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION: Jason Rittereiser for Congress WA-08
Jason was born and raised in Ellensburg and now lives on the west side of the mountains in Issaquah with his wife Michelle. His deep roots in Washington’s 8th Congressional District, which stretches from the factories and high-tech companies in King and Pierce Counties to the farming and ranching communities of Eastern Washington, give him a unique understanding of the diverse character of the 8th district.
Growing up, Jason understood the importance of hard work and public service from an early age. His dad was a police chief and his mom started the Ellensburg Children’s Museum and served on the Ellensburg City Council. Jason paid for his education at the University of Washington by working on a hay farm in the Kittitas Valley.
After attending DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Jason returned to Washington to serve as a criminal prosecutor for King County in the Special Assault Unit and the Violent Crime Unit, bringing justice to crime victims and holding criminals accountable.
Now, as a lawyer, Jason works to protect the rights of employees, as a voice for thousands of Washingtonians who have faced discrimination in the workplace, had their wages stolen by their employers, or have faced injustice. From construction workers to daycare workers, from restaurant workers to nurses, from software engineers to police officers, Jason has dedicated his career to helping employees and their families get a fair shot in the workplace.
It’s no surprise that the King County Bar Association selected Jason as its 2017 Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year, an award that recognizes excellence in legal practice and substantial contributions to the legal profession. The Governor also appointed Jason to a State Advisory Council of community leaders working on a statewide approach to address homelessness.
From these experiences advocating on behalf of people, working families, and the homeless population, Jason has learned how strong leaders advocating for what’s right can make a difference in people’s lives, knowledge he will take with him as a Representative of the 8th district.
But most importantly, in the last thirty-four years, Jason has never missed an Ellensburg Rodeo.
