This is what may well have happened:The Russians arrange a meeting in Trump Tower on June 9, 2016 promising "dirt on Hillary," news of which was enthusiastically received by Trump Jr.
At the meeting the Russians give some dirt but also tell Jr. that they're ready to go with cyber attacks; they just need an okay. (I.e., they need to know Trump, if he wins, won't retaliate against them.) They probably tell (in broad outline) some of the things they can do.
Junior tells Trump immediately, and Trump thinks about it for over a month. (How deliberate can you get?) Maybe discussions with Jr. and others?
On July 27, 2016, at a 10:30 a.m. news conference at his golf course in Doral, Fla., Trump says, "Russia if you're listening . . ." etc. In Russia, this was late in the afternoon.
The indictment released Friday states: "For example, on or about July 27, 2016, the conspirators attempted after-hours to spearphish for the first time email accounts at a domain hosted by a third-party provider and used by Clintons personal office.
So the Russians were poised, waiting for an okay from Trump and prepared. They were on it that night!

I think realizations and/or strong speculations such as the above is the reason Mueller/Rosenstein released the informati0n about specific date of the inception of the spearphising

(19,356 posts)It strongly suggests that Trump signaled Russia on July 27th with full knowledge and over a month of consideration.
Imagine the pros and cons of his considerations with himself and possibly others:
--If I get caught and Hillary wins, I'll claim it's a conspiracy narrative made up to persecute her opponent. She will realize how this would look and discourage it.
--If I don't get caught and Hillary wins, so what?
--If I get caught and I win, I do what I've always done, con who I can, pay off the greedy, and break the rest. It's always worked before, hasn't it?
--If I don't get caught and I win, I can start really shredding The Constitution!

(9,593 posts)The if youre listening line I thought that it was a signal for something. No one running for high office would ever say that unless that line was followed with a threat. It wasnt it was a plea for help.

(19,356 posts)Mueller/Rosenstein put Trump on notice that they know what he did and have enough evidence on him to charge him with the equivalent of traitor against the United States.
What's his next move? What's he going to do?
