RENO, Nev. During a campaign-style tour of the West late last month, Senator Elizabeth Warren did not announce she was running for president. But in private events and public speeches, her message about 2020 was as clear as it was rousing.
In Salt Lake City, Ms. Warren urged Democrats to turn out in force for the midterm elections to build momentum for the next presidential race, and in Denver, she told a meeting of state legislators and trial lawyers that she wanted to be a tribune for lower-income Americans, according to people who attended the events. And in a speech to the Nevada Democratic Party in Reno, Ms. Warren said Democrats must do more than drive Donald Trump and his enablers out of power.
I want a party strong enough to take on the hard job of cleaning up the mess theyll leave behind once they are gone, Ms. Warren declared, all but volunteering for the task.
Before the trip and since, Ms. Warren and her emissaries have been reaching out to key Democratic officeholders in Iowa, Nevada and South Carolina three states early in the presidential primary calendar making introductions and offering help in the midterm campaign. Altogether, her moves are among the most assertive steps taken by any Democrat to prepare for 2020.
Ms. Warren, 69, now leads a small advance guard of Democrats who appear to be moving deliberately toward challenging President Trump. Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr., wielding a political network cultivated over decades, has been reasserting himself as a party leader, while Senators Cory Booker of New Jersey and Kamala Harris of California have emerged as fresher-faced messengers for the midterms. And Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, the runner-up in the 2016 primaries, has been acting like a candidate as he considers another race.

You dont agree. So be it.

(5,801 posts)As is the minimizing the roll of Bernie and the other 36 politicians who signed on.
If the argument is that she made them do it, well then what does that say for their leadership abilities?
LakeArenal
(28,729 posts)Nobody is saying she made anybody do anything. That's the point of not always blaming Gilli.
Nobody is suggesting you shouldn't support whomever you want. As can the rest of us. Calling our opinion ridiculous is not really going to change anyone's opinion. Just the opinion of you.

(13,305 posts).....but that shouldn't have been surprising to anyone who has known the Blue Dog Gillibrand for years and watched her do and say whatever is expedient to her own career.
And obviously LOTS of politicians do this so there are instances of that in everyone's closet as far as the political game goes. But she has always been way more craven than most when that is concerned.
Her former blue dog status should be more of a deal breaker than anything.

Love Uncle Joe too. I think we need someone who knows how the ENTIRE government functions...every department...on granular level, because it will be a smoking crater by 2020.

Actually doing the job of being president (unlike 45, who just plays president on tv) is even more so.

(3,569 posts)The Orange shitgibbon is too old as well. Id really like someone younger, more vital than TRump. Someone he cant mock about age as he did with HRC.
Biden would not let him do that, he can give it too, but his age is a HUGE drawback for me.

(14,230 posts)and the clearest framer of the issues and their solutions is Elizabeth Warren. Bidens candid nature of speaking makes him a close second.
We need someone in the #1 or #2 spot who can frame pocketbook issues in a way that makes people realize theyve been robbed for decades.
Moral outrage is contagious.

(25,746 posts)Warren probably is also, but she looks and behaves like someone at least ten years younger, so I'd support her if she chose to run.
However, we absolutely need much younger people running for President. As well as for the Senate and House.

(6,137 posts)Warren is popular among bernie crowd that are now desi franchised but she could reignite them and bring 2016 levels of enthusiasm. She doesnt have socialism attached to her and as a former repub may sway some trump voters who are economically hurt. I was gonna say she lacks charisma but it seems that really is not all that important anymore. People are more than ever before are voting on issues.
