In South Dakota, patience wears thin as tariffs hit home

https://www.argusleader.com/story/news/politics/2018/07/13/south-dakota-trump-tariffs-hit-home/780376002/

South Dakota farmers and ranchers this week weathered the first round of tariffs and talk of an imminent trade war.

It's a hit they'd hoped to avoid for months and one they've been paying for for weeks as uncertainty loomed large over the market, dragging down the price of key crops.

The tariff talks have already cost South Dakota farmers and ranchers hundreds of millions of dollars, experts said, as the value of their crops has dipped amid international concern about new tariffs.

It's a loss that many can't sustain and one that elected officials and others worried could tank the state's economy.

big time. There are LLC's set up by these folks in every County and in some areas,if they don't out right own the Productive Land, they control is via Lease operations.

Was in Eastern Sodak in 2016 helping set up a Commercial Weed Control company, dealing with right of way and possible drift issues,we encountered many of these same cry baby Farmers. Do remember one good sized operator who was a registered Dem,and he said if Trump does get elected,he predicted the collapse of his areas farm economy..

For him,he felt he could survive for few years with his contracts for Corn to the Local Ethanol plant. Will be interesting to see first hand how these folks are doing in a few weeks when we get back to that area.

From Wikipedia:

"South Dakota has voted for the Republican ticket in every election since 1968. Donald Trump continued the Republican tradition in South Dakota, carrying the state with 61.5% of the vote, to Hillary Clinton's 31.7% of the vote,[1] a 29.8% margin of victory, the largest for either party candidate since Republican Dwight D. Eisenhower's 38.5% margin in 1952. South Dakota was also one of eight states where Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson won over 5% of the vote."

I also looked at a map and there were 5 counties out of a total of 66 in the state that Clinton won.

the Trumpster said 'his people' would be willing to sacrifice and see the greater good for the future.

That would be a future of foreclosure and destitution.

I won't gloat on this news because keeping your head above water as a farmer in the best of times is . . . really difficult. I would suggest that these farmers and ranchers join Dems in November so we can turn this around for them and everyone else.

Because if they stubbornly stay in Trump's corner, they will be signing their own death warrant. As well as the country's.

This is a land grab. The small farmers default on their loans and foreign-owned corporations buy up all the land. That's why they put Trump in office. Mission accomplished.

I wonder what they're planning to do with all the U.S. land they will own?

ummmmmmm. like Pres O, the Clintons and the Liberals. They never learn and they usually vote against their own interest.

A Democratic Party's President usually have to step in and save the democracy and the economy. A Democratic Party congress in the minority try to save democracy and the economy, but the Democratic Party, Liberals and Progressives are the evil ones cause fake news say so.

peel off his base. Make him look like the weak, stupid, incompetent, uncaring jerk that he is. Fortunately, he is helping as much as he can. But Democrats and the media need to make/stress the point for the dunderheads to get it--after their pockets and lives have been negatively impacted.
