How Rove's IT company shifted Ohio vote counting to their own servers (they had the contract to provide backup server services, thanks to Ken Blackwell), then the vote count shifted 6% to Bush? Tons of problems with the vote totals, statistical impossibilities (per statisticians from places like MIT who have examined them).
OH 04 was definitely stolen, & 2 IT techs who testified about it ended up dead under suspicious circumstances. Mainstream media ignored it.
Here are a couple articles that cover some of it. There's a lot more detail than this, I spent a few years researching this & archived a ton of documentation.

(15,512 posts)then in a low key way. Meanwhile Kerry's former rival, Howard Dean, took charge of the DNC and set Donna Brazille to head a comprehenisve review of the Ohio voting system. The resulting report is lengthy, objective, and detailed, and in my view damning, but the view Brazille expressed publicly was that mistakes were made, but not enough to support charges of intentional interference.
And that was the end of it. Why Brazille decided to make it go away instead of pursuing it is anyone's guess. Here's the 2005 DNC report, Democracy at Risk: The 2004 Election in Ohio," which I imagine many here have read:

And here's a 2015 article by New Yorker editor David Remnick hinting that Kerry and his wife suspect that the 2004 election was rigged:

(2,195 posts)They seemed rather stoic about it all. Bush stated that things would work out.
Seemed unusual considering how things were then going. Not half and hour later
the big switch. The one that corrected all the exit polls. Yes, together with voter
suppression, Blackwell, etc., Ohio and the Election was stolen. Kerry would have won
the Electoral College at least. 3 out of 5, just enough theft to make it seem legit.

(3,784 posts)The reason why there were such long lines to vote in heavily Democratic districts was because Blackwell reduced the number of voting machines in these districts, among other "dirty tricks" (the list is too long to rehash here). All of this is well documented. And I can tell you this with 100% certainty, because I stood in those long lines in 2004, and I saw the voter suppression taking place (i.e. certain people being "encouraged" to leave the line, voters being "challenged" by "poll-watchers," etc.)
Why didn't it happen again in 2008? Because Blackwell was voted out of office and replaced by Jennifer Brunner, who worked tirelessly to undo the voter suppression schemes Blackwell had put into place. Brunner has since been replaced by yet another Republican who promptly reversed most of the progress Brunner made. And just by pure coincidence, I'm sure, look how Ohio's vote has swung back to the right since.
So yes, for all the hand-wringing I've seen about how we need to "re-examine" our message and reach out to this group and that group, and how we need to do all this soul-searching and make wholesale changes, just bear in mind that a Republican candidate hasn't LEGITIMATELY won the White House in 30 years. Maybe the problem is not our beliefs/policies/messaging.

Had we started raising hell then about malfunctioning machines and no paper trails perhaps things would not have gotten to this point. Now the GOP doesn't even bother to pretend they aren't cheating. And too many Democrats continue to turn a blind eye rather than admit our system doesn't work or that Russia did not limit itself to just looking at voting lists.
