Very worrying thread from Sarah Kendzior / Leah McElrath on Trump's 'Moscow as retribution' tweet

I read Cheetolini's tweet this AM and knew something was very off but I couldn't put my finger on it. This thread does a good job of explaining why he could now be signaling for something else.

Thread. I agree with Leah that Trump did not write these tweets and that they were disturbingly messianic in tone. They didn't try to imitate Trump's voice; this is something new entirely. https://t.co/B5pkXEJsuO
— Sarah Kendzior (@sarahkendzior) <a href="

@leahmcelrath
The language in these tweets is distinctive.

It is definitely not Trump's language (he never spoke or wrote like this even back when he still could form complete sentences).

To my eyes/ears, the language seems different than that any of his other surrogates use on his account.

@leahmcelrath
Some of the language has a distinctively messianic feel:

"retribution for all the sins and evils"
"hatred and dissension...but at some point it will heal!"

That is the kind of language and perspective of messianic religious groups.

@leahmcelrath

Finally, and this is more of a gut reaction than anything, I am struck by how these three tweets characterize Trump as a martyr or scapegoat of sorts.

He likes to play the victim, yes, but it's not usually framed exactly this way. Hard to describe.

But it feels, to me, ominous.

Pence would have those kind of chops, wouldn't he?

Another thing, it's telling because right there he (or someone) is confirming Russian interference: "If I was given the great city of Moscow as retribution for all the sins and evils committed by Russia".

As an aside, which might suggest someone else boilerplating that is the reference to St. Petersburg. I'm guessing tRump would think the only St. Petersburg is in Florida.

There’s a St Petersburg in FL too.

Putin has much to gain right now from a massive terror attack in the US. In fact he could probably get away with setting off a suitcase. There are any number of others to blame, and we’re isolated and despised like never before. What’s to stop him? It would instantaneously remove us as a superpower right now and we’d be crippled in responding because Trump.
