Anonymous US official: translator will be debriefed

CNN: According to a U.S. official, the translator in Trump's one-on-one with Putin will likely be debriefed, at least informally, about what took place in the meeting. After Trump's performance at the press conference, the contents of that session are gaining greater scrutiny.

translators are always needed. Almost certainly, he speaks and understands Russian much better. It is his native language. Any time serious issues are involved, most people prefer to speak their native language. That helps avoid errors in communication.

I speak French quite well, but not nearly as well as I speak English. If I were involved in a business negotiation, I would speak in English and use a translator to accurately convey my meaning in French. My French vocabulary is not nearly as adequate as my English vocabulary.

We should never be surprised when a non-native Englsh speaker chooses to speak in his or her native language. That's what keeps translators employed.

Back in the 19th century some monarchs actually had to learn the language of the country they were in well enough to speak it to their 2nd cousin, who was the sovereign opposite. But it's part of the whole "embodying the state" thing.

yeah, i'm sure the translator will freely tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth with absolutely zero fear of consequence from the guy who can make novichok mysteriously appear in your private perfume bottle.

Of course, if he/she says that nothing untoward took place, (but I hope they are really an undercover agent of some sort), cause the Russian Mob are ruthless and would do anything to keep that meeting a secret, including threatening their families.

I also hope all kinds of people were secretly recording.this meeting and we get to hear it one day.

The only way to be sure their info doesn't leave the room is to eliminate them.
