Anything is on the table at this point.
This should be scaring the absolute shit out of all of us. Our president does not reside in the US. Our congress are either complicit, or spineless idiots.
What is the possible end game in this that gets us through this unmitigated disaster?

(23,944 posts)we lost our country in 2016. so far i see very little chance of The Old Republic returning.
i think what happens next depends a lot on whether Putin is satisfied with a brief period of international humiliation or if he wants a long-term balkanization of the USA. how much time does Putin want to sink into this project? it's been wildly successful so far, but it's looking like it's about to hit some legal snags; he might be better served by just calling off the attacks and letting our nation thrash itself to pieces trying to get out of the bind we're already in.
if they were serious about consolidating power, Trump + GOP would have been much more careful about appearances, smooth transitions and slick communications. if that was the plan, it has failed miserably. so what we have instead is a severely weakened government incapable of doing anything correctly -- still preferable to a true autocracy, but definitely liable to slip into one. as battles heat up over reproductive and minority rights, divisions will increase naturally. i think it's likely that Putin considers his work done - once you've pushed the boulder over the cliff, you don't need to push it more on the way down, that part should pretty much take care of itself.
