(2,146 posts)NRA is a lawyer'd up joint...they don't make mistakes that leaves them open to this kind of liability.
THey haven't been around this long and been this influential by making stupid FEC mistakes

(127,309 posts)They have been working on this for awhile apparently.

(2,146 posts)This crap started in 2015 with this girl.
I'll bet $1k right now to an animal shelter of the winners choice.. NRA has this legally locked down. It's a cake walk.
I'm not a member but I know they have deep legal pockets.

(2,146 posts)Keene was Pres of the NRA in 2011-'13....1 term. During POTUS Obama
Kingofalldems
(38,361 posts)The treason started back then. Not sure why you inject Obama into the discussion.

(2,146 posts)Keene hasn't been Pres of NRA in 5 yrs...

(7,725 posts)the statute didnt apply. i disagreed and every day we go forward it applies even more. theres also attempted treason, conspiracy to commit treason...and offshoots of every other law, they have broken. Calm the fuck down. It's what a jury says it is. NOT necessarily YOU.
Some of the crimes don't actually have to have happened...ala.. treason...just that you meant/thought you were trying to do it. Lots of loopholes in the law. ESPECIALLY when the prosecutors are gunning for you and defending the USA. But, Ill defer to the lawyers. Hopefully Federal ones.
AncientGeezer
(2,146 posts)I've made that assertion where...when... re: ANY Statute?
I sourced the Constitution.
You JUST typed this....."Some of the crimes don't actually have to have happened...ala.. treason"..."just that you meant/thought you were trying to do it."
A crime that's NOT happened can be prosecuted??? What "statute" or part of the Constitution do you source for that declaration?
Do tell me where in ANY legal writings...or the Constitution that a thought of committing a crime constitutes the same penalty as Committing the crime
No... Frig NO. That's NOT how the Law works...and if it EVER gets there..Trumpanzees will have everybody on DU in shackles for thoughts of "trying to do it"...
Did you think out your post before you hit "post my reply" ?

(14,270 posts)What actions do you think are treasonous?
AncientGeezer
(2,146 posts)Treason has a VERY specific legal definition.
Because I hate the Dumpster doesn't mean what he does is Treason...
How many on the Right screamed "Treason" during 8 yrs of POTUS Obama...?
Countless pecker weaseles.
There is a very specific standard...
OliverQ
(3,363 posts)Historically, that meant a country we're in declared or open war with. The Constitution, however, never actually defines it and we have no way to apply that standard to the modern concept of Cyber warfare.
Generic Brad
(14,270 posts)Not a talking point.
AncientGeezer
(2,146 posts)Is there a part of that you don't get?
It's pretty clear.

(14,270 posts)You have been very clear.

(2,146 posts)around...if that's my "number", using ArtIII SecIII.....Fine. I'll take that number.
Let me ask You...what is Your definition of Treason?
This should be interesting.
Please do inform me of your take. I await your definition.
Crutchez_CuiBono
(7,725 posts)Theres a lot of crimes banging around in trumpworld. All it takes is a persuasive atty to get a jury to see the light on anything.
AncientGeezer
(2,146 posts)Constitutional definition ArtIII SecIII...it's a very specific detailed deal. Not a matter of knowing "everything"...by any stretch.
Other crimes...absolutely possible and I suspect will be a banking deal, FEC crap, tax avoidance probably..but when I see Treason thrown out....not sitting back there.
My brother said The Iran Nuclear deal was Treason...wasn't.

(38,361 posts)I think you know. Are you an NRA fan?
