in 2012, never mind talking about it decades prior as well...

It's not a grand, long-standing, uber-complex, narrowly-specific conspiracy on Putin's part so much as it is a fulfillment of a multi-multi-multi-multi-avenued probing for opportunity which happened to hit jackpot once finally.

That's how someone put it. Trump is just one of a long line of targets russia has been cultivating, something they have done constantly for decades. It almost never pays off, but they keep doing it because, well, you never know. When they started on trump with the real estate purchases in the 80's, they began to see it might be one of those rare jackpots (plus they get to launder all that looted wealth.) trump's ego and personality are so defective that it turned out to be easy. He is now our Chaushesku doing the bidding of the russians.

Just bloody delightful.

...in the late 80's/early 90's. I think at first it started by Putin*/Russia* guaranteeing loans for tRump* primarily through Douche Bank*, you know, the nazis fave ATM.

No self-respecting former superpower would make Donald Trump an agent. Of course, no self-respecting superpower would elect him President, but that's a whole different discussion. Trump doesn't have the self-discipline to be considered by ANY nation as an agent. Not that a former KGB like Putin wouldn't take advantage if the opportunity presented itself, but anything organized...I highly doubt it.
