Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright appeared on Morning Joe Tuesday morning to give her analysis of President Donald Trumps disastrous press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.
She emphasized that the alliance between the US and its European allies is resilient and will survive the Trump presidency. But we cannot normalize the behavior of President Trump, she said. Albright also quoted Benito Mussolini, who said if you pluck the chicken one feather at a time nobody will notice.'
We have just plucked a lot of feathers here, she said. And I think that its very important for us to make clear that Trump has over-plucked.
Putin has a plan: he wants to undermine democracy, he wants to separate us from our allies in Europe, he wants to reassert influence in the Middle East, and our president is a help in all of this, Albright said.
There is a term that the Russians use, its called useful idiot. I do think that whatever President Trump thought he was saying, he definitely helped Putins plans for getting back into the game, and for undermining democracy in Europe, she added. We cannot allow that to happen.
