Thoughts on Trump Derangement Syndrome and the right's blinding hatred of Hillary

Was thinking about the various factions of Americans and how they were feeling after watching the Helsinki press conference. Many, like myself thought, this is the moment - Trump choosing to believe Putin over his own intelligence and saying so on a global stage. Why would Trump do that? Putin must have goods on Trump. Others have said Trump is not well, bringing back the Article 25 discussion. Even Michael Anton, Former Trump NSC spox, canceled his appearance on Outfront tonight because he couldn’t defend Trump - maybe the tide is turning for some.

Then, I happened to catch Rand Paul's appalling interview with Wolf Blitzer, in which Wolf managed to challenge Rand several times on his excuses for and defense of Trump. If you didn't catch it - here is the write-up - https://www.cnn.com/2018/07/16/politics/rand-paul-donald-trump-russia-cnntv/index.html. (Hint Paul looks so bad in the interview, Blitzer's twitter feed actually included tweets sympathizing with Paul's neighbor.)

One of the outrageous statements Paul made was that "Any country that can spy does, and any country that can meddle in foreign elections does," ...."All countries are doing this, but we've elevated this to a higher degree, and we've made this all about the sour grapes of Hillary Clinton losing the election, and it's all about partisan politics now. This is truly the Trump derangement syndrome that motivates all of this."

We've heard this phrase many times, "Trump derangement syndrome" The right uses it to dismiss any criticism of Trump. There are variations - "we are so sour grapes Hillary lost" or "we hate Trump so much" that nothing that is said against Trump is valid. Trump himself invoked this sentiment in his press conference without using the phrase.

This sentiment has been invoked by many who just hated Hillary Clinton and just didn't want her to win. I disagree with them, but acknowledge they are out there. Like Dennis Miller said "Do I think the election was hacked? I don't give a shit. If it was, I'm glad they picked him."

I found this December 2016 LA Times column by Justin Raimondo (antiwar) which I think originated or at least publicized the phrase.
http://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-raimondo-trump-derangement-syndrome-20161226-story.html Incidentally Justin is battling lung cancer now but is still as hard right, spewing as much ugliness as ever.

But after yesterday, it seems to me this phrase has a new - more accurate meaning - Trump derangement syndrome is for those Americans who continue to defend him after yesterday in the face of evidence he supports Russia over America. Those of us who see Trump for who he is are clear eyed and calm.

Anybody who can listen to that press conference (or an Trump speech) and believe there is anything good in it must be sick in the head.

they are utterly brainwashed. Fear is an amazing brainwashing tool. They are played like a fiddle - the ones they worship simply loathe them - in fact, they all loathe themselves more than anything else.

If they weren't destroying our country, they would simply be pathetic tools. But they are complicit, so I've not a shred of sympathy for any of them.
