A white, gay Republican drugstore manager who called the police on a black woman who used a coupon has been fired. And that was only the beginning of his comeuppance.
CVS manager Morry Matson and another, unnamed employee were fired after they called the police on Camilla Hudson, 53, for attempting to use a coupon that they believed was fraudulant. Video of the call went viral, and Matson the president of the Illinois chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans was dubbed Coupon Carl on the internet.

CVS issued a statement on Monday promising to investigate the incident. Later in the day, Matson and the other employee were fired.
We have completed our investigation, and as a result the two colleagues who were involved are no longer employed by CVS Health, a CVS spokesperson told the Chicago Tribune.
The Log Cabin Republicans also pulled the Illinois chapters charter:

Most businesses would rather keep the customer's business than argue even near the point of police intervention for a frikking coupon.

(4,159 posts)The coupon was for $17.00. And for that amount of pocket change, the store employees blew their gasket at a customer and then (rightly so) lost their job.
Sounds like they really aren't cut out for retail.

The chapter from Illinois. The Land of Lincoln. Who they named the Log Cabin Republicans for.

Hate to say it but thats pretty much the main motivation behind Log Cabin membership.
Theyre gay but they dont want my money going to welfare queens
A friend of mine owns several businesses and has 5000 plus Facebook friends. So I see the other side. The more conservative Log Cabin types use all the code words.
Two things I was surprised and dismayed to learn when I first came out: there are plenty of racist gay people. And gay men and lesbians are pretty much segregated - at least here in Chicago.

(6,907 posts)Oh wait,he IS Republican................
Matson is a conservative who opposes high taxes, but Matson was also politically active in leading an effort to build a waterfront bike path to a beach near his own home. As part of that effort, he got the government to make the beachs old sea wall a historic landmark and worked to convince his racist neighbors that that improving the beachfront would not mean they saw an influx of people from the South Side.
"But Matson got overzealous. An opponent of his expensive bike path went to look at the signatures for a ballot measure and discovered that five of the 13 pages the signatures were written by him."

(41,047 posts)must also be a factor, and 'conservatism' in general. I think some are Repub. because they grew up in con families and environments or they are heavily into corporatism and free market ideology. And nothing attracts them to the Dem. Party I guess. So strange.
Include libertarian corporate businessman Peter Thiel, the German-born Silicon Valley billionaire who founded PayPal, FB, etc., and supports Trump, doesn't think women should have got the vote, and more.
Billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Singer, aka 'the vulture' as his mother called him, has a son who's gay and has supported some LGBT causes, at least in the past.
But there are many exceptions, Gay or Straight people who grew up in con families, Or are very well off and yet support democratic values. Nick Hanauer of the Patriotic Millionaires is one example.

(4,066 posts)Why any LGBTQ person would choose to be a Republican is beyond me. One can be fiscally conservative that is true. But if one can be denied a job because of the policies of the GOP, or a mortgage, or a hotel room, etc. then the rest of life isn't very meaningful.

(53,823 posts)I can understand your concern, because there are certainly those who would use this as a homophobic weapon. If this were a run-of-the-mill publication, I, too, might look at it with a sideways glance, but this is a gay publication, so the "gay aspect" does factor in, much the same way Jewish, Muslim, African-American publications include info relevant to those respective groups.
