He's smug about owning Dotard, but Putin may be prouder of poisoning social media
Many folks thought initially that the hacking might be a false flag operation because it was so easy to trace the source on Guciffer 2.0 and the other early hacks. Also, paying with rubles on Facebook ads made it seem like it was low level work or someone trying to shift blame.
Thinking it through with more info and the benefit of time, I'm more inclined to view this as intentionally stirring up crap with minimal cover for maximum effect. With the Russian government's penchant for control, they try to severely restrict or monitor social media. Following the Arab Spring, it was clearly shown the power of Twitter and Facebook to unite people in movements that threaten central control. What better way to kill two birds with one stone than to have blatant propaganda spread on the most prominent public media sites that are easily traced back to known opposition troll sites?
They inserted racist memes and outright lies directly into the social bloodstream to not only poison HRC's campaign and the US election process all the while setting the stage to delegitimize the entire social media universe as a trusted means of organizing and fighting against oppression. Putin and his trolls tainted the info pool and have changed the world's view of the internet to the point that people don't even trust messages from Aunt Ginny or Grandma.
Look at how long it took to out the 12 Russian military hackers. They were doing much more covert things and were much harder to uncover. They dug out more critical internal info that was used to target the fake news and likely more arcane actions to manipulate voter actions.
My suspicions are that there is likely another level of hacking at the voting machine and voter registration levels that has not been revealed yet. If the FBI were uncover actionable proof, all hell will break loose and we will have a Constitutional crisis that can't be ignored no matter what Dershowitz might think.
