By Nicole Lafond | July 17, 2018 3:00 pm
President Donald Trump on Tuesday attempted to walk back his public support of Vladimir Putins denials of Russian meddling in the 2016 election, by correcting one word he from his press conference on Monday.
In a key sentence in my remarks said the word would instead of wouldnt, he said. The sentence should have been, I dont see any reason why I wouldnt or why it wouldnt be Russia.
Sort of a double negative. So you can put that in, and I think that probably clarifies things pretty good by itself.
Trump said he realized he need to clarify that word choice after reading through the transcript of the press conference, which he requested because he couldnt figure out why the media was being so critical.
I came back and I said, What is going on? Whats the big deal?' he said. I thought it would be obvious, but I would just like to clarify just in case it wasnt.

(53,743 posts)staff poured over the transcript of that debacle of a presser yesterday to figure out what they could do to clean up his mess.
The only thing they could settle on was "wouldn't" instead of "would".
Yeah, right.
Hahahahahahahahaha!

(15,805 posts)Trump says we should only believe one word and ignore everything else he said during his presser with Putin and again in his interview with Hannity. This is totally out of context with everything else he
said and it makes no sense to change one single word while the bulk of his replies that trashed our country are forever available on video.

(173 posts)Nothing to clarify, bud. Its all very clear where you stand with respect to your country, its institutions, and its citizens. Another little lie isnt going to change it.

(56,828 posts)why did he not correct himself on Sean Hannity last night? Hannity was spoon feeding him everything, why not correct the record then?
Why did he have to wait 17 or 18 hours after Hannity to finally say that he misspoke? Why not have the White House issue a statement last night or early this morning?

Trump meant what he said and so did Pootie. This is ridiculous!

(90,758 posts)As in if he did...blah blah blah ...which will eventually (and sooner) morph into some republican saying the president explained himself and case closed.
It's bullshit gristle for the gnawers - the lie, that is.
Trump said exactly what he meant to say. Everything else after is a lie.
Sure, some will continue to call out the lie - a good thing.
But as far as the GOP is concerned, it's over and done with - they will not say anything to Trump or do anything about him.

(22,990 posts)It's bullshit. He did not correct himself. He did not "admit he had a slip of the tongue". He lied. Furthermore, "wouldn't" is about 0.4% less bad than "would", and since it's attached to the rest of the statement "I don't see any reason...", it makes no damn difference.
