Trump calls out 'very aggressive' Montenegro in latest NATO jibe

LONDON — In the 12 short years since Montenegro regained its independence, the European country has joined NATO, boosted its defense spending, and according to official figures contributes more troops per capita to the war in Afghanistan than the United States.

Yet this U.S. ally — smaller than Connecticut and about as populous as Baltimore — found itself in President Donald Trump's cross hairs late Tuesday as he once again criticized NATO.

The president suggested he would be unhappy defending "tiny" Montenegro if it were attacked, calling into question NATO's central principle of mutual defense.

He also questioned whether the country's "very aggressive people" could draw NATO into a war with Russia.

Wonder where he got the idea that Montenegro was "aggressive" from?

3. He made the comment during his interview with Tucker Carlson

Tucker seemed to be pushing the idea that "Americans shouldn't die to protect Montenegro" as well.

Seems clear that Putin will be making some moves in Europe shortly and the US will roll over and Fox and Friends will have Putin and Trump's back.

stuff came from. Tucker wonders why his son should fight for Montenegro? I don't know. It's an ally, maybe. Tucker must want his son to fight for Russia. It figures they would bring up a fairly tiny country as to use as an example to shit on NATO. Let them say that about Great Britain of France.

I know Putin put him up to singleing out Montenegro in these comments. That’s a given.

Trump was literally aggressive towards that country’s leader.

Literally.

Disgusting that Trump is so STUPID that he is willing to spout any ridiculous lie that Putin feeds him.

Obviously he knows nothing about Montenegro himself, so it seems clear that he picked up the idea that they are "aggressive" from Putin. Seems like Fox is preparing the ground to back up the US rolling over when Russia makes its next move.

8. The Tucker Carlson interview last night was a complete shitshow.

Actually it aired last night but was recorded in Helsinki. It's obvious Putin wants Montenegro.

Trump says he's bothered by provisions of NATO that require the US to come to the defense of other member countries.

TUCKER: "Why should my son go to Montenegro to defend it from attack?"

TRUMP: “I understand what you’re saying. I’ve asked the same question."

Trump uses white supremacists talking points -- says immigration is "destroying the culture of Europe" -- falsely claims construction of his border wall has already started, adds that he wants to be able to deport immigrants without due process.

Trump suggests he feels a certain loyalty to Russia because they helped us win World War 2. Then tries to take credit for the fact the American economy is "about twice the size of China." #lulz

Seems like an oddly random thing for them to be talking about - and yet, a moment's reflection will make it clear that this is Putin.

Where would Trump get the idea that Montenegro was "very aggressive" if not from Putin?

In 2016, the chief prosecutor in Montenegro accused Russian nationalists of being behind an alleged coup attempt that included plans to assassinate the nation’s pro-western prime minister over his government’s attempt to join NATO.

Since joining the alliance, Montenegro has sent troops to a NATO-led mission in Afghanistan.

The Baltics are extremely worried, too.

It was put up in Montenegro before the election. I thought it was a threat at the time.
Russia wants all the bits it lost back. This bit happens to have water access.
