(20,709 posts)You'd think the cop would want both hands on the wheel for that.

(6,324 posts)Personally, I dont know if I would have taken those shots in such a crowded area, but I am not privy to all the background info he knew at the time and dont know the area as well as he would.
There are special classes aimed at teaching how to fire out of a car through the windshield, teaching how it affects the flight of the bullets. Maybe he has had this class and had a higher level of confidence in doing that than I do as someone without that specific training.
Still, not a shot I would take when I was a deputy. At least not in a dense urban area like that.
One interesting aspect is you can see how under stress you default back to your level of training and often how you first trained. His grip on the pistol when he uses both hands is classic revolver grip and totally unsuited for a semi auto pistol. And when he goes to reload his pistol the way he grips it is how you train for a rapid reload in a revolver and slowed him down, as well as him trying to insert the magazine backwards.
I would bet that he first learned on a revolver- either an older officer or one whose career started in a job that used revolvers (in a lot of places corrections, court bailiffs, etc carry revolvers still or did back when he may have started). That was when he trained hardest, and under stress he defaulted back to that because since he hasnt had intensive training.
