Senate Democrats Send Trump Reeling With Massive Effort To Expose Private Putin Meeting
Senate Democrats have launched a full-scale effort to find out exactly what was said at Trumps private meeting with Putin.
According to a list provided to PoliticusUSA by the Senate Democrats, here is a list of what they have done in the last 48 hours:
A list of the Senate Democrats actions is as follows:
Senator Shaheen Calls for Congressional Hearing with President Trumps Helsinki Interpreter [LINK]
Senator Menendez Urges White House to Preserve Any and All Records from Helsinki Summit [LINK]
Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has also outlined specific actions Senate Republicans can take immediately, including:
Ratcheting up, not watering down, sanctions against Russia.
Demanding that the Trump national security team that accompanied the president to the summit in Helsinki immediately testify in open Congressional hearings and release any notes of the one-on-one meeting unedited. Senator Schumer noted that, while Secretary of State Pompeo testifying next week is a good start, in the interest of national security, we need to hear from the entire Trump national security team that was at Helsinki and the translator so we can learn the full extent of what happened behind closed doors.
Taking actions to protect Special Counsel Muellers investigation such as passing bipartisan legislation that was reported out of the Senate Judiciary Committee and drop once and for all attacks and attempts to undermine the Russia probe.
Demanding loudly and clearly that President Trump both release his tax returns and insist that Russians indicted by the Department of Justice be sent immediately to the United States to stand trial.
Moving bipartisan election security legislation (like the Secure Elections Act and DETER Act) immediately to protect elections in 2018 and beyond.
Being in the minority, Senate Democrats are limited in what they can do, but they can effectively mobilize public support and keep the pressure on Trump. Democrats are pulling out all of the stops to confront this national security crisis. They arent standing by and waiting for Republicans to act, because we all know that Republicans arent going to act.
Democrats are making Trumps Russia headache even worse, and if the president thinks that the sledding is rough now, imagine what it will be like if Democrats take back the Senate in November. Democrats are taking action, but the real action will come if they gain control of the Senate.

(5,210 posts)MY favorites are the free faxes -- you can attach up to 3 pages, and also have a bit of text on the cover sheet if you want. I like to write them in the evening, after I've had a day of "news" and send them in the evening so they're waiting for staff in the morning.
Others may prefer texting their messages.
Or calling and leaving a message.
But most effective? I have no idea.

Also, they should pass a law refusing any president permission to meet ALONE with an enemy such as Putin. Or anyone else, for that matter.

(24,262 posts)the scary thing is what will Trump do or say in the next few days to make all this old news no one is talking about anymore. Are we talking about children in cages in concentration camps anymore? How are they doing with the electricity in Puerto Rico? I could go on....
is a manipulator, con artist, habitual liar and playing the media in these horrific events, like Naomi Klein wrote in The Shock Doctrine. It supposed to wear our mental senses down and confuse us, but we need to stay focused and determined to fight back.
He needs to be run out of the country by the people, most depots are or they meet their fate in other ways.

(1,979 posts)what I have been waiting for! Every time the DCCC calls me for a donation, I tell them that they get my money when I start to see a backbone. They can have my time and talent (I'm trained on the OFA database) as long as it is to support specific steps toward us promoting someone or something that is going to move us forward and get us ready with strong leadership for when this Titanic sinks (and baby, it looks like its starting to tilt). They have money - this is about WAY more than who has the most money to buy the most commercials.
If 45 did nothing else, he showed us that you can run an election using the media and not really have to spend a gazillion bucks. We have the numbers, easily. We need to get everyone out to vote or show them how to vote from home (if it is a possibility for them like it is in Florida).
I'm feeling hopeful and it feels pretty damn good.

(7,725 posts)that's a great start on at least the outline of putins face...on dons back. Just a rough draft probably, but, a nice little momento for the day he 'rushed' the russian fraternity of low lifes, and was accepted. (Like 'stoned' the other rube w one of the same....only circa 1970s.)

(115,656 posts)Another tendentious headline; PoliticsUSA is almost as bad as Raw Story in that respect. Sad fact is that all the Dems can do is "urge," "call for," "demand," and write strong letters. I'm glad they're speaking out, but unless they take back the House they aren't going to send anybody reeling.

If the discussion between Dump and Putin involved criminal activity or anything treasonous is the interpreter not under some sort of obligation to report it? Would he or she not be complicit in such an instance?
