So what strikes me as really disturbing is this entire Putin "summit" looks like a ridiculous unforced error. Coming on the heels of the Russian indictments that he knew were coming down last Friday, and then shitting all over NATO and England... they all had to know that this summit would be terrible optics even if Trump didn't completely suck Putin off the way he did at the PC. So why did they go through with it? Why did he insist on it? It was entirely his deal, he pushed it from the start and he insisted that no-one be present but interpreters. What was so important that he needed 2 hours face to face, he didn't trust the phone, he didn't trust any messenger... when you look at it through the lens of the predictable political damage that it caused, it really seems scary what he might have passed on to his master in those 2 hours.

(52,208 posts)they have a propaganda network and a supportive majority in Congress and a huge flock of enthusiastic brainwashed followers.
Why wouldn't they think they can get away with this? There wasn't that much pushback before and there really were no surprises.
