Walmart's next swipe at Amazon may be streaming video service

The world’s leading brick-and-mortar retailer, led by CEO Doug McMillon, is considering a streaming service, according to a report. Although details are scarce, a Walmart entry could undercut other streaming services on the market by charging no more than $8 a month.

Walmart sees an opportunity because it believes Amazon and Netflix “are seen as more popular with people on the East and West Coasts of the US,” according to TheInformation, which first reported on Walmart’s plans, citing sources.
Walmart’s effort would be aimed at America’s heartland, the report said.

Walmart told The Post it doesn’t “comment on rumors and speculation.”
A streaming service from the discounter could spur subscribers into doing more online shopping with the chain (Walmart).

So, will they end up using Amazon's cloud to serve their video streams, just as Netflix did? hunter Jul 2018 #4

I wonder how this will be different. It is all about the content. I just don't think Dinesh D'Souza's latest screed is going to cut it.

And I don't think their content licenses would allow them to offer a buffet style service via Vudu. I think it would have to be a new service.

come off like Republicans attempts at commercial comedy. I'm guessing this will be little different.

“It is estimated that Amazon, for example, has more than 2m servers around the world, while Google is estimated to have 10 exabytes of data storage space. That’s 10 million terabytes, or 10 billion gigabytes.”
