They are refusing to allow the translator that witnessed the 2 hour conversation to be debriefed by Congress, either in closed or in public hearings.
By their purposeful refusal to allow even members of Congress to hear what Trump promised Putin, they are aiding and abetting a known enemy of the state.
I hope Mueller is watching and will subpoena the translator.

(23,094 posts)That is what they are, that is what I call them. They have sold their souls and our country out for personal power and because they are being blackmailed as well. Yesterday was the period at the end of the sentence when these rw complicit asses refused to give more $$ for election security. They want and are planning on stealing elections with russian assistance and don't care about the consequences or our country or the world because they will be sitting fat and pretty and that's all they care about. They are sickening!!

Trump's Helsinki performance puts translator in the spotlight
By Nicole Gaouette and Elise Labott, CNN
Updated 10:08 AM EDT, Thu July 19, 2018
Washington (CNN) The continuing furor over President Donald Trump's Helsinki press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin is focusing a spotlight on a figure meant to be invisible in high-stakes diplomacy: the translator.
Growing numbers of lawmakers are calling for Marina Gross, the State Department interpreter who shepherded Trump through his one-on-one meeting with Putin, to appear before Congress. Gross was the only other member of the US delegation in the room during the leaders' meeting, which lasted over 90 minutes.

(6,900 posts)as he furiously tries to first exonerate Putin and then support the intelligence agencies, over and over again. While kissing Putin's ass in Helsinki, he went just a teeny bit too far.
But he forgot to say not, so It's all better now.
Seriously, testimony from the translator will probably never be made public.
I suspect that the leak to the NY Times, which mentions a source close to Putin was a direct consequence of the Trump/Putin meeting. The leaker either knew or had good reason to believe that Trump informed Putin about the source. The intelligence services don't put their sources at risk, so the leak to the NY Times did not put the source at risk.

Catch2.2
(629 posts)I know they are the minority party which limits their power. However, they should be more vocal at the least. Let the American people know about this. The average person does not know this is going on. Hold a press conference! Do something! If this was the reverse, the republicans would be all over this and the majority of the country would think Dems are traitors. The Democrats need new leadership!

(3,363 posts)and the Dems for putting forward the motion. Schumer, Schiff, Ted Lieu, Eric Swalwell, etc. have all been on twitter today talking about it.
The issue is the voters don't care. They are content living in a dictatorship at this point.

(23,094 posts)There are several Senators I really used to like and now wouldn't life a finger to help in the primaries. Of course I will vote for any Dem in the general, better than russian repug traitors, but can't get over not having Franken there to question the SCOTUS nominee. He was just so much better at it than any of the others and the Dem party took a big hit by people kicking him out without getting any of the truth, just trying to look good themselves.

(38,472 posts)will do ANYTHING to stay in power. The midterm elections will NOT be free and fair. They haven't been for decades, but this year WILL BE THE WORST. Nothing is being done to stop it, but much is being done to abet the Russo-Republican takeover of our country.

I hope its not to late for Democrats to save freedom and democracy in America.
Ill be honest. Im scared to death that the fascist conspiracy lead by Putin and Trump has succeeded far beyond their wildest dreams.
The 1%ers that are backing this evil have us right where they want us. One spark , one reighstag fire event is all Putin, Trump and the GOP are waiting for.
November is a long long ways away. I hope we make it to the midterms and are able to vote.
