(86,063 posts)spill the beans if he gets canned. He probably knows enough to sink this pirate ship. What I worry about and will be watching for signs of is journalists and others dropping dead like a swine flu epidemic.
I'm almost in favor of a temporary military coup at this point.

(86,063 posts)what will end this debacle of universal proportion... if that's the answer and it turns out better than what's down this fateful path, I'd be all for it. The other potential options are far less acceptable than a coup.

(90,202 posts)...militarized police forces (you ain't seen nothing yet). I know veterans of US armed forces (including my husband) who have very pungent things to say about what happens to your personal civil liberties once you put on that uniform.
Yessir.
A little military coup is like being a little pregnant.

(86,063 posts)and have worn some federal uniforms myself. I don't know what will pull us out of this shithole... something had better and soon. Marching in the streets is one good thing but many end up with serious injuries and broken teeth in those edeavors, my first whiff of tear gas was during the Vietnam war.

I find the fact that a clacque of posters here keep putting it forth -- it's repugnant as hell.
Some people new to DU may be mistaken about the meaning of "Underground" in this context, and when they are told they then have a choice whether to stay or go. Others are trolling hard and, if I may say so, putting the site in danger.
No. Just no.

(36,739 posts)Just about every country in the world where democracy has failed, has ended up under a military junta. For some countries it has happened repeatedly...over and over again.

(86,063 posts)I don't feel it's a good thing, I just suspect that we will end up with that as the end result. People are getting pissed and scared liked hasn't been seen for at least a generation and there will be a crackdown after prolonged protest. Perhaps a general strike or something. We must oust these bastards before we can't.

(17,857 posts)funny free in the wilderness right now. I would love to hear Coats recount how they had to craft Trump's post-Helsinki response.

(5,210 posts)breaking news today. I thought it was quite endearing, too. (And believe me, I never thought I'd find anything about Coats endearing.)

(31,011 posts)When he released the statement after tRump's man-crush with Putin in Helsinki, Coats was putting country first. That was a nice surprise.
While, I'm deeply suspicious of him still, I hope he doesn't resign in protest because it seems to me that he's doing it out of duty and not supplicating to tRump. We need someone who puts country first in that job. I hope I'm not wrong about the guy.

(5,210 posts)I'm grateful for him. I can see he's got the country at heart.
If it's any comfort, he said in that same interview that as long as he can get and speak the truth, he'll stay. (This may be a bad paraphrase of what he said, but I'm pretty sure I got the gist of it right.) I thought that was quite statesmanlike, and I appreciated it a lot.
