Campaign Thank You Notes: Nice touch or wasted overhead?

Received a handwritten note thanking me for my small donation. It was a nice touch, but I wonder how much monet and time are spent sending them out. How do you feel when you receive one?

I would prefer the candidate wouldn't waste his/her money on the note. I'm fine without the thank-you note, but maybe that's just me.

use your time and resources toward more fruitful ends.

What I do appreciate is a note from the candidate of campaigns I have worked on after the election. Those are cherished.

Messages like you got can be printed for less than 1 cent and sent via bulk mail. The cost is less than you assume.

The person in charge of the autopen does them for the candidate. There are usually levels of signature: full formal name; first and last name; first name or nickname. I was in charge of Senator Kerry's autopen during the presidential campaign before I was accepted into the research and analysis division. It was fun.
