After 18 months of tRaitor tRump's presidency, this past week seems to have just knocked the spirit out of them.
tRump's hound dog face is becoming contagious.
I'm currently watching Don Lemon on CNN. He has April Ryan, Bill Kristol and Rick Wilson contributing. They're all fatigued and exasperated, with red or puffy eyes, and bags under their eyes. The same was true of Anderson Cooper and Chris Cuomo - both overtired and frustrated. This presidency is taking its toll on everyone. The panel of The View is getting downright hostile.
I've read reports and can believe that psychiatrists are doing a booming business these days.

(90,656 posts)She was handed a Breaking News bulletin and didn't have time to prepare herself, and the shock was just too much.
This is just brutal on everyone.

(205,237 posts)How many shows has Ali Velshi been hosting? Both of his own and he's covering for Chris Hayes. And I was surprised to see Gene Robinson back on Morning Joe after he weighed in on the evening shows, too. They're doing a good job, but it's got to be exhausting - there's a bigger and worse Trump scandal every single day, on Wednesday each one topped the previous one.

(17,984 posts)And Katie Tur. She gets on my nerves with all her laughing and joking.
My kids advised me to turn the TV off. But many are saying they try,yet go right back waiting for the next horror story. It is unrelenting with no relief in sight with our corrupt Congress.
I am asking ,guys, where do we go to get our sanity back? Blaming Obama for what Trump is doing?
Rhiannon12866
(205,237 posts)Though I think she actually enjoyed herself, she could pretty much say what she really wanted to. As for Obama and Trump, the only comparison is that according to the Republicans, Obama couldn't do anything right and Trump can't seem ti do anything wrong - or stupid or inappropriate or treasonous.

(10,885 posts)and saw the Rachel Maddow show you referenced. It was wrenching to see her break down.
Never before have I seen the incredulous looks they all now exhibit, or recall hearing such stunned commentaries. These professionals are as shell-shocked as we are, and they have less opportunity to free themselves from it as it's their J.O.B.
tRaitor tRump's continuous attacks on the media are shameless and without merit. I'm thankful we have these media soldiers working their butts off to keep us informed.

(205,237 posts)And he was chewing gum! Those were the days... *sigh*
Obama chewed out for gum goof in China
People in China took to the internet to criticize President Obama for getting caught on camera chewing gum as he arrived at an economic summit in Beijing. Some also took offense to his method of transportation.

(205,237 posts)I remember my grandmother who was pretty forward thinking would notice and comment if she saw someone chewing gum in public. But I agree, it doesn't quite measure up to colluding with the enemy to hack the American election.

It took 4 different antibiotics to recover
in addition I had a uti infection and then all the medicine caused yeast infections plus I had my regular chemo infusions. I was one sick girl

(205,237 posts)It may have been a blessing that you couldn't keep up with the bad news, but even that doesn't sound worth it. I'm so sorry, that sounds incredibly tough, I hope that you're on the mend. The worst I experienced was not being able to say my name when I stopped to vote. Half of my face was still numb.

(9,426 posts)this entire tRump MESS. I am disgusted with all of them, plus seeing tRump's repulsive face everywhere. On TV, on the internet, newspapers. He seems to think he is some type of pin-up idol. He is totally gross. Reading that his "boys" Beavis and Butthead cost taxpayers $250,000 in one month for travel, accomadations on business trips!! Plus Princess Ivanka advising people to "Hire Americans" while she uses sweatshops overseas, and her father advertises for foreign workers for his properties. They make a good Mafia Family, that's for sure, but no way are they qualified to be in the WH.

(38,958 posts)I am sure that fatigue is setting in. I manage it by limiting my 24/7 Breaking TV Infotainment News to no more than 10 minutes per day when I turn it on at all and that is becoming less and less frequent. I can only imagine having to deal with the multiple firehoses of crap coming from Washington on a daily or hourly basis, they have to be exhausted, but they chose this profession and are making some very, very large dollars so I can't really feel too sorry for them.

(2,074 posts)They payed the false equivalency game during the elections, never covered Hillary's policies, hammered her over and over about the emails, and gave Trump billions of dollars' worth of free coverage. In fact, they have done very little over the years to serve democracy - little actual reporting, more reality TV posing as news.

(17,003 posts)They had from the time Twitler announced his candidacy to Nov 2016 to dig into his life. Did they? Hell no! They normalized his hate, racism, xenophobia, and misogeny. They allowed him to tell lie after lie after lie and never corrected him. They brought this on all of us. So they look a little tired. So what. How many of them are facing deportation or loss of their health insurance their jobs or access to clean water? Any of them ripped from their parents' arms and held in a cage? Their wealth will protect them from the worst of what he and his minions have done and are yet to do. If they had done their jobs we wouldn't be in this never ending nightmare. They don't deserve to sleep easy.

So, we settled for watching what once was a science channel and now seems to be an adolescent male channel: Discovery ( discovering how to repossess farm equipment). Who needs any damn public tv. Let private industry take care of it. Right? Right?

They shouldn't have played his klan rallies on tv. They should have burned him to ashes when he talked like an idiot. As mentioned up the thread there was an inordinate amount of time spent on "her emails".
They gave passes to the fast dealing trump shittalkers. They gave those bastards a platform to spread their shit outside of fox.
They all need to be tired and ready to be even more so because the majority of the news media printed ,and otherwise, have a long road to travel before they are clear of the damage they wrought with their money making narratives.
I hope those behind the cameras and not just out there in front are feeling it as well. The ones that mapped out exactly how the coverage would play. I hope they have eyes that are just as red as those in front of the cameras and on the bylines.

(22,976 posts)So start with that travesty, and add in the current (mis)administrations flip-flops, reversals and multiple changes they toss willy-nilly into the storylines of each crisis du jour. Then there are the tons of daily hate mail, threatening phone calls, and other forms of harassment.
And think how it must feel to be a factual news/media person, who takes pride in honest, truthful work, only to have it completely dismissed by the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and told that youre just fake news multiple times daily over a two-year stretch.
Totally Tunsie
(10,885 posts)The constant barrage must be both frightening and demeaning.
tRump will continue with his "fake news" claims, but I wish journalists, reporters, commentators and the like would lessen their use of the phrase. I feel their adoption of it is legitimizing the phrase and taking away the stun value from when it's used by its originator and would prefer the term to remain unacknowledged by MSM, and keep it as a example of the spew from 45, rather than being normalized and accepted by the masses. At it's origin, it set 45 apart as a bully, but by mainstreaming it, they/we give it approval.
VOX
(22,976 posts)And it was meant to describe the Russian clickbait news on social media, etc.
But the right wing has a history of weaponizing language for effect in the media: pro-life, entitlements, Democrat Party, etc. Someone in service to 45 most likely told him to appropriate it, and to repeat it as often as possible. (Not unlike, No collusion. There was no collusion. None. No collusion.)

(22,976 posts)One of the rights prime exponents of using language for power has been (sorry) Newt Gingrich.
Youre probably aware of his famous/infamous 1996 GOPAC memo, which included a list of words to be used by then-freshman Republican members of Congress. Kind of a rhetorical handbook of words to control any discussion.
The words are listed here, from 23 years ago (apologies if youre already familiar with it):

In good times, people drink to celebrate. In bad, they drink to drown their sorrows.
Not a hell of a lot of celebrating going on these days. Better days a-comin'???
