Just heard from an old friend working for the Dept. of Ed.

This was an old high-school friend who i hadn't really kept in touch with, but always really liked. He wished me a happy birthday on facebook so I responded thanking him. He told me he was now working in Boston. I gave him my email address and told him to contact me since I don't really communicate on Facebook much.

His email was brief but he said he has been working for the Dept. of Education for years and was always able to work from home (he lives in western MA). Then he added that this current administration "insisted on office presence" so he had to rent an apartment closer to Boston because they don't want to sell their home and uproot their children from where they are in school. I didn't get into politics with him but it sounds like he's not happy about having to be in an office in Boston after being able to WFH for so long.

Effing Betsy de Vos making as many people as miserable as possible in as many ways as possible. The woman is such an evil hag.

I find it more productive, and that I have had a far better attitude about my job since I started WFH. I don't have to fight traffic all the way across town, so I am in a better mood than I would be going to an office every morning. It is also far more comfortable to work in your own chair, your own office than in some bland institutional setting. I don't have harsh fluorescent lights beating down on me all day. I can work 8 hours between 5 AM and 7 PM, so I don't have a set schedule. This makes making doctors' appointments and other needful meetings far easier. I don't know of studies measuring productivity for people who work from home, but I know I do a lot better.

is exponentially better now that I have the opportunity to work from home, at least some of the time. While I have an office in our family business storefront, I can start my day at home while doing some laundry, getting my kiddo off to school and prep for dinner. Our family life is SO much better than when I punched a time clock. I get so much more done. I’m sorry anybody has to do the bidding of Betsy DeVoss. Horrid person.

Work from home rules rolled back
Dept of Ag rolled back to pre 2008 rules 1 day per pay period from 8 days. Not all Ag employees got 8 days as it was job dependent
But after spending $$$ on worker pods at various locations, massive infrastructure upgrades to handle county offices data loads and access, Director rolled the rules
Pissed off people!
One of them here

thinks people need to be monitored and babysat to make sure they aren't "taking advantage". They are treating people like children. How about judging people based upon their performance? It's so typically republican.

They say that Democrats want a "nanny state". The republicans are the one who want constant supervision and control over people's lives. Public and private.
