(60,010 posts)I was always taught to think " It is" a a check to the word...but "it's" would usually be easier to to type and spell as "it is"
than reaching for the apostrophe.
Weird...

(25,746 posts)but I can easily understand that it could be just as easy, or even easier, for some to type the two words.
Sometimes it is all I can do not to post a sarcastic comment when a person here types it's for its. Sometimes I'm a veritable model of self-restraint.

(60,010 posts)Pretty sure auto correct is changing the language, and for those of us who were taught grammar in the "old days" it can feel frustrating.

(25,746 posts)Can't it be turned off? Can't people do a quick reread of what they've typed before sending?
I don't have a smart phone, only a very dumb one. I don't allow auto-correct when I'm in Word, so I avoid most of those problems, although I do periodically mis-type something, to my extreme annoyance.
I also wonder about the programs that you can supposedly dictate to, and it will type out whatever you've said. The programming needed to distinguish between it's and its; they're, there, and their; rein and reign; and so many others strikes me as almost impossible at this point.

(1,149 posts)I often think of this quote from a movie when it comes to trump.
Blane: "You couldn't buy her, though, that's what's killing you, isn't it? Stef? That's it, Stef. She thinks you're shit. And deep down, you know she's right"
Deep down, he knows a majority of Americans know he's shit. He can't stand it. His base will never satisfy his ego.
Anybody know the movie?

(3,764 posts)I don't need it though. I just think to myself, can I replace it with "you are" - then it's you're. If not it's "your".
